Loading ...A little political background – Uribe , the former President of Colombia had family members killed by FARC guerrillas , and came to power on a hard line platform against FARC . At the time , Santos was a close political ally . As Uribe reached the term limit of his Presidency he virtually anointed Santos as his successor , so Santos was successful in his bid for the Presidency of Colombia . Once in office however , Santos reversed course , and accepted talks between the Government and FARC IN ‘neutral’ Cuba . Uribe was furious and actively opposed the Santos plan .
We will see if the peace accord works , and how long it will take for children to be able to safely leave the road to school into the surrounding land-mined fields , hopefully cleared in the months and years ahead .
