I expect the forward-looking ideas expressed in the link below by Wal van Lierop will be

too much to swallow by most old-timer posters on Goldtentoasis, but in my opinion van Lierop’s thoughts are good examples of the exciting future that lies ahead of us.  In addition to the suggested high-tech approach for synthesizing substitutes for critically important rare earth elements, I think the new ways of looking at value-added small business approaches could also provide innovative approaches for new refineries that develop novel  petrochemical miracle products from hydrocarbon reserves.  Accompanying these product innovations could be an accelerated search for ways to hasten the break-down time and natural recycling time of newly-created petrochemical products, as well as a search for ways to keep these petrochemical-derived products out of the oceans and freshwater habitats.

I dislike use of the term, post-carbon.  It should not be viewed as ways to leave the carbon-based economy in the rearview mirror, but rather how to develop commercially viable innovative uses of carbon-based compounds.   After all, carbon is a rather universal and ubiquitous element in the natural world.  If North Anerican busines and engineering innovators do not lead the way in this exciting field, I suspect there are similar interests in China and Eurasia who will be trying hard to lead the way. End of Sunday rant.  Equiz
