Loading ...Krakatoa was a deep subduction volcano on a fault line. The whole pacific ‘ring of fire’ is like that. Hawaii is a shield volcano. A hot magma spot that bubbles up slowly and builds a mountain ‘shield’ as it overflows the top. Hawaii does not have the deep explosive power of a subduction zone. Our steam explosions are relatively local crustal effects. Still can be large and hazardous for miles around from the fallout, though! People in Volcano village near the summit have been advised to beware of potential ash fall from the crater. “Be ready to get under an overhead shelter” Some of that ‘ash fall’ can be several pound chunks! 🙂
