That looked like typical common treatment but not the same as cancer as besides infection could be a problem is limited to one area. It’s also a more fatty area than over bone and cartilage of a functional area that can be less vascular where also scaring is not much of a issue.
They pack the wound because it’s a wet wound that needs draining and don’t want it to close up before it drains which can lead to infection. That common practice to people who go home is to shower least once a day to rince out debris. They also usually give you antibiotics. It turned out okay so won’t go any further about it. Wound healing with or without cancer can be dependent on many factors of health and nutrition. Best they got that one out and looks like the doctor did a good job.
