I know a very successful self employed lawyer who started out as an ADA assistant district attorney. Several others in the same county did it. Many people, tops in their trade, break away from the boring limited salary.

In a sense, if you are a lawyer $199k is chump change. We have cops here making more than that. Believe me, you would not want a lawyer that works for peanuts, defending you.
