Loading ...Many people had gone to work down in Chico before the fire broke out and when they learned about it they were not allowed to go back up to rescue animals. Some phoned friends or neighbors to ask them to rescue the animals but. . . only a few were successful.
In 2008 they had a fire that evacuated the town and caused such gridlock that they developed a plan to evacuate in stages. They had mailed out brochures to explain the evacuation plan, and folks were following it. They had only called for half the town to be evacuated, when they realized the whole town was at risk. The fire moved so fast they never gave the order to the west side of town where I lived.The roads had cleared by the time my son and I got out, but flames were coming from all sides, and some people were still obediently huddled in their homes.
