Macrobiotic diet started out as yin and yang. Somewhere it was condenced to a apparent restricted diet that appears more yin. The ancient form targeted the diseases by physiology say where in the system that was being affected and whether it was a yin or yang condition sometimes by its organ.
Something’s cound be considered a yin condition in which you would need more yang and vise Versa.
A body builder or one with physical activities for instance might require more yang. ” protein” without protein many body functions including breathing and getting oxygen wouldn’t function. It is that imbalance between the two that can cause problems. A bodybuilder or worker will need and use up more yang than someone more sedentary.

In forensics you can see it in the bones and one of the things that may determine a single bone of extremities to be male or female maybe minus a female athlete or one doing hard physical work or lifting but still will show a difference. The bones with be smoother in a female because of less pull on the bones from muscles.
Calcium is needed to build Repair those bones including physical activity. For instance diet alone will not protect your bones especially women from getting weak and porous and prone to breaking. You have to exercise which at least light weight bearing type exercise.
Same for muscle which will turn to fat if you don’t exercise and get enough protein. Then there’s the opposite side over use and wear and tear.
Anyways macrobiotics have been condemned to one fits all by those who are not following the original Asian form and what suits one may not suit another as it is in the original sense yin and yang and the balance between the two.
Too much rice although mainly white rice can cause cancers in GT tract for instance.
Macro has its benefits but that was originally under the presumption that the rice and vegetables for the yin leaning diet are not GMO or laced with pesticides.
