This guy has America dead and buried already.
He points out two things… 1. Politicians saw the demise of the Soviet Union as an opportunity to weaken or destroy some of their more ruthless underling regimes. Maybe a good idea, maybe not. Endless war? Or endless training and R&D for a real war against a real adversary? Who knows… but it seems to be keeping the Russians and Chinese somewhat at bay. And 2. There are some really rich people around the world, some of whom are interested in politics. Always have been, and always will be. Nothing really new there. Income inequality was far greater in the Roman Empire than it is today.
Regarding deep/surveillance state… either destroy all your computers and convert to Amish, or quit complaining about it. Our entire civilized society would last about 1 day if all this tech was left un-watched. The people who scream about it generally are afraid of their own past actions coming to light.
Last I checked, America was doing pretty damn well, all things considered. Get off your couch, off your whining social media, and live life. The world is changing, deal with it. These articles are designed to depress you into inaction. Don’t fall for it.
