eeos – Ski Train

Yes, that is a neat train stop right next to the tunnel.  I seem to recall the old ski train used to stop right there and let skiers off right next to the tracks before they built that sidewalk.  The ski trains all have to go down the line to Fraser where the first available siding is.  The morning train parks on the siding, the locos disconnect and run around the parked train and reconnect facing back toward Winter Park, ready for the return trip.  The train lays over in the siding all day to keep the mainline clear for traffic until the evening return trip.

I wonder that happened to the old Ansco ski train?  I really liked the color/design of the Ansco train…. looked like the old Rio Grande Zephyr.  I heard it was’t profitable. Last I saw the train was sold up to Canada and repainted.   And now Amtrak is running a ski train, so it must be profitable.  I guess times and passenger loads have changed, if the highways are clogged now as you say.
