Reminds me when a (70’s) high school friend got whacked in the head by the main boom during a jibe in mid 2000’s while racing in Fishers Island Sound. Went down turned blue and the crew just dropped out and sailed back to port. He was an experienced sailor but wasn’t payin’ enough attention I reckon.
I was fully prepped to take care of the neighborhood in ’08 but am a little behind this time. But I know to duck when jibing…. better yet grab the main sheet and pull it over -on a smaller boat anyway.
Batten down the hatches! Can’t hurt to be prepared. Could make the difference between life and not so much life. No panic here but paying attention.
