Loading ...When we decided to try a Pay site for Rambus after he posted his charts at Goldtent for many months
We had no idea what would happen . It was an experiment amongst 3 completely inexperienced neophytes
The amount of bandwidth required for the basic set up was miniscule compared to That used by Goldtent
which had archives dating back for several years and 2 million hits a month
Audept and I were just tooling around on the server with no real idea what would come of it
It was just an experiment and we knew there would be no detriment or influence on the server
So we just went ahead
Hindsight is 20 20 and If we knew what we were about to create would be a permanent site
we would have (should have) broadcast our intentions immediately..

For the first year nothing much really happened…we had maybe 25 members if that
We had a forum that went unused and the amount of bandwidth was negligible

NOW ….I never asked for reimbursement for many monthly fees charged by the 2 host sites
Host Monster in the early years and Lunarpages over the years
for things such as monitoring and licencing fees and domain fees …these were just charged to my card
monthly…one was $9,95 a month another was like $119 every 3 months..I never kept track of all that
and the tentathon never paid for all of that..(with the exception of the latest server migration where they charged it all up front
and in one package)..
…so net net I personally paid probably about $ 400 to 500 over a period of the first 4 years of the tent
No problem..no concern…my choice
I felt this more than compensated for the miniscule bandwith for Rambus Year One Plus
And at that point it was not certain we would even be viable or continue

Yes we set up Rambus on the same server as Goldtent…and we didn’t feel it necessary to discuss it
…We felt It was just an experiment and did not interfere with anybody and didn’t cost
anybody …we had very little action for over a year….. maybe 25 members .
Then all of a sudden after Rambus made a great call the place stated growing exponentially
because Jim Sinclair joined the site and started promoting Rambus at his seminars
That’s when I sent the infamous email to Todd (and inadvertently to wanka)
The intent was to tell him we will pay our portion of the server costs
Of course we would let you all know what and why,,,but you found out this way instead !

and just go with 2 more Gigs ?
or would the new server perhaps be better…even if more expensive

Obviously we were growing suddenly and were wanting to take responsibility
for our % usage
…the bottom line is Nobody ever paid a red cent for the Rambus portion of the server
when we migrated last May the usage was still about 50:50
but we paid $2200 and the tentathon paid $840 (unused portion from the Jan 2013 donations)
We paid more than our share …and rightly so

in May this year we paid the whole server fee in the expectation it would pay for the whole year
May 2014 to May 2015 for both sites
…We of course fully expected the tent to continue and theserver fees were to be paid 100% by Rambus Chartology
even though % usage was about 75% Rambus to 25% Goldtent by then
there was to be NO tentathon to cover this !

Wanka and I discussed this and he insisted we find out the exact server usage and pay accordingly
I agreed…. but then Todd and I discussed it and decided we would cover 100%
so I paid it all…. $3000 ( to be reimbursed by Rambus)
Now of course You have no use for the old server but May thru July Goldtent had the server usage .
So lets summarize here
1…For 1 year plus we developed the Rambus Site and had a miniscule portion of the server usage
2…The site started to use a lot more of the server AND at the same time Goldtent was Increasing server usage
so we migrated to a new server ..at that point the usage was 50 50 ..Rambus Chartology paid $2200 and there was a credit
from the previous period (paid for by the Jan 2013 tentathon) which covered the Balance…so Rambus paid More that 50%
3…Rambus Chartology paid forward the whole server fee for May 2014 to May 2015…of which Goldtent used only 2 months
before being migrated to the oasis
Where is the robbery in all this …

BUT now Rambus Chartology is receiving the same attitude !!

We worked very hard and still do to make the site interesting and useful and we get paid for our work
NOBODY here has paid a red cent towards the portions of the server we used
We used a common server during the experimental stage and when the experiment was successful
We openly paid MORE than our fair share ! (yes OPENLY…obviously from that email our intention was to pay)
Wanka never once during this whole migration process questioned our integrity and intentions
He and Audept and I all worked hand in hand with Lunarpages to achieve a smooth migration

The real reason for the Oasis superceeding the Tent is simple
At some point Audept had a Falling out with Wanka ..
Wanka asked him to do some basic server maintainance and repair
but effectively Audept resigned..and the tent was left with NO webmaster..an untenable situation
I tried to mediate but with limited results
To this day I do not know what the Falling out was all about..but at this point it doesn’t matter

The net result is You all have a wonderful new site..many old valued members have returned…the site is revitalized
It will thrive I am sure under your guidance with Wanka and Floridagold and Ipso facto
and I am happy to be an Author with no other responsabilities .
That is why I am here posting…that and also to answer any questions about the Evil Pay Site known as Rambus Chartology

In hindsight If We had known we were a viable entity WE would have had a separate server day one
