The tournament was TOUGH!  The competition was very tough this year. The course was still very wet from the recent rains and lack of sunshine, but the conditions are of course tough for everyone.  There were 96 entrants in the tourney and flights that hit from the tips, middle and the forward tees. (We played from the middle tees.)

On Friday (day 1)  we finished in 3rd place. I pretty much did the heavy lifting and my partner gave an extraordinary effort to play with a very sore knee just managed to get his quota.

On Saturday, it was a different story. The course was in pretty much the same condition. We were paired with the team that was the Thursday leader in our flight.  My partner had a very strong day and I played like warmed over puppy poop!  (Shot 88)  Good news is (in Stableford scoring) the tournament rules did not have a penalty for bad holes. So my good holes still accumulated points and the bad ones did not hurt us except for lost opportunity.  On the front nine I hit only one green, but managed to get at least one point on every hole.   I frustrated the other team on the first half  dozen holes by repeatedly hitting very short duck hooks into trouble, trees, deep rough…. This made it all but impossible to get a par, but managed to score one par and 5 improbable bogies getting 1 point for each. This really seemed to unnerve the other team.  On the back nine, my partner shot an excellent 38 and racked up enough points to push us over our team quota.  We were tied with the other team with three holes to go.  I got 4 points over those 3 holes and my partner got 6.

Averaging the two days we both exceeded our quotas (modified Stableford quota”s based on handicap).  We moved up into 2nd place winning $200.  Both my partner and I were happy with the result and yet frustrated by our inconsistent play. I am especially proud of my partner playing on a very tender leg and learning how to adjust to the effects on his swing.
