While accumulating slowly at these bargain basement prices for physical Ag, Mrs Equiz and I have chosen, instead of mountain hiking, to focus on interesting outings near our own back yard. Near the south end of the West Coast Trail at Port Renfrew, along a now-paved logging road connecting Port Renfrew with Lake Cowichan and Duncan, a few days ago we had the pleasure of passing through many hectares of working forest. Here is a photo of silvicultural patterns created where second-growth Douglas-fir, western hemlock and western red-cedar have been harvested to create stumpage revenue that supports the health care system and the education system in our jurisdiction. A well-managed working forest, in a climate zone where it is readily regenerated after harvest, is compatible with recreational use of the landscape. We enjoy our outings in such spaces, just as MadMike and his partner enjoy the outdoor landscape in their beautiful part of the world.
Enjoy the rest of the summer in your part of Canada. Cheers. Equiz.
