“I fear a crash.  The reason I fear a crash is that when you have a market that goes up relentlessly, and volatility goes down and complacency is high, that means folks are buying equities that are not aware of the risks of the stock market.  The moment the fear comes back to the market, for whatever reason, those guys are gone in a heartbeat. “

“Merk, who has $400 million under management, likes gold and explains, “The medium to long term reason why I like gold is I don’t think we can afford real positive interest rates. . . . If you look at real interest rates, they have been negative.  They have gotten more negative of late, and Janet Yellen is promising she is going to be late in raising rates.  So, even as nominal rates go up, real rates are going to continue to be negative.  So, I don’t buy gold because of a crisis flaring up here and there because those things can be short term.  Now, Putin has a long term interest in instability in Ukraine, but I buy gold mostly because if I look 10 years out, and you think we are going back to the historic rate that we’ve paid on financing our deficit, we’ll be paying more than a trillion dollars a year to finance our national debt.  We can’t afford that.  So, that means the Fed is going to keep rates low, and we are not going to be paying a trillion dollars a year.  Something is going to give, and gold is the purest way to play those sorts of scenarios.””

Floridagold, I Been Thinking About What You Said…About ‘patching’ Things Up…

Posted by Farmboy @ 12:49 on August 28, 2014

with the “lovely and talented” ole whats her name.  I truly am pondering over it, quite a bit since you mentioned it the first time several months ago. Lord knows I have tried on several occasions. She is a tough one to make up to. But I’m working on it. Course that would mean I would have to say something like, ” Augal, I was wrong.” Which just goes against every fiber and cell in the male body to have to admit to such. Not that I cant change, but we are talking millions of years of the male genes to overcome.  And then I guess I would have to ask, ” Please forgive me.” Will, I guess I really wouldn’t have to actually say ‘Please’. But since I have to ask her to forgive me ( when it was all her fault anyways ) might as well be polite about it. So I think you are beginning to understand my dilemma . And then there is who is going to replace her as tormentor and evil one in my life. You just cant expect me to go around handing out flowers to everyone. There has to be someone I can pick on from time to time. Pretty sure that is some kind of Universal Law or something.

But hey, I just had an idea…….. !!

He’s kinda used to sleeping on a rake in Wanka’s garage. I am not sure he could handle something as upscale and with creature comforts as a cellar would provide. Maybe if you had a box of nails you could spread out on the cellar floor….?

And I am not sure he could handle a diet of all that fresh seafood.  Probably make him sick. Some canned Sardines or Spam would better suit his digestive track. Got any snakes? Just throw one or two down in the cellar. He will be just fine.

and perhaps a bit of a physic I think? I have been discussing with some close friends of what the next chapter in my life will bring. The time of caring for my elderly parents on a full time basis is coming to an end soon. One friend handed me a blank sheet of paper and said, ” Farmboy, here is the rest of your life, write the rest of your life’s story. Just make sure it is your story, and not what someone else thinks it ought to be.”

Now Lord knows I have done a lot of crazy things in my life, and I reckon Im still somewhat cursed with that attitude. And I have shown up in some out of the way places along my journey. Not all of them expecting to see me, or even welcome me. Some just started shooting at me as soon as I showed up. Guess that Southern Hospitality has not gotten around to some parts of this world. (grin)

Tell  you what, the next time you patronize that pub I would appreciate it if you would hand the barkeep a ten dollar bill. Be sure and write ‘Farmboy’ on it and tell him just in case I show up one day and need a cold beer. You just never know what I might do for my next adventure, or where my journey will take me from here. Just tell him please not to start shooting at me. Im getting too old to dodge those bullets. 🙂

Carpe Deim my friend. Something else I am learning to do now that I am closer to the ‘Finish Line’ than the ‘Starting Line’ along my journey. Yep, Carpe Deim and laugh like hell. A lot. Trying to make it all about the journey and not the destination. Now if they would just get their boots off us goldbugs necks, I might could afford to ride in the first class section of Maya’s Club Car. (grin) But I don’t mind shoveling a little coal either. Kinda like the idea of riding up front.

Take care, and Best, Farmboy

This is an island where everybody cough in the fall and winter…we also say what we want, and you´ll  find one or two home-brewers (exraordinary fine alcohol).

Apart from shrimps, lobsters and fresh fish of the day. Also some deers on the island, but you can not shoot them. I talk to them every day….passing my lawn…. sometimes I think they listen.

Obama Signs Executive Order to Detain Americans With ‘Respiratory Illnesses’

snip: ”

In addition, under the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act, public health authorities and governors would be given expanded police powers to seize control of communications devices, public and private property, as well as a host of other draconian measures in the event of a public health emergency.

When the legislation was introduced, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons warned that it “could turn governors into dictators.”

German Security Expert Warns “War Between Russia And The West Is A Real Possibility”

Tyler Durden’s pictureSubmitted by Tyler Durden on 08/28/2014 10:21 -0400

“The de-escalation strategy with Moscow has failed,” warns Joachim Krause, Director of the Institute for Security Studies, concluding ominously that “A war between Russia and the West… is a real possibility.” As Handelsblatt reports, Krause states “we should not deny this reality any longer.”

From Handelsblatt (via Google Translate),

The Director of the Institute for Security Studies at the University of Kiel, Joachim Krause, holding a war between Russia and the West for possible, the West should now not clearly show the flag in view of the escalating situation in Ukraine. “A war between Russia and the West, I do not wind up currently, but if the West will not respond with the necessary determination and effectiveness, a war in a few years could be a real possibility,” Krause told Handelsblatt Online.

The fact that Russia’s invasion takes place in the Ukraine a week before the NATO summit, show that Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin challenged the West generally. “We should set out and deny this reality any longer.”

“What we are experiencing these days, is an armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine,” Krause said. He referred to the aggression defined by the United Nations of 1974 Then was also to be considered “sending by or on behalf of a State of armed bands, groups, irregulars or mercenaries” as interstate aggression, “if this is of such gravity as to in its consequences a regular invasion equals “.

Thus, the policy of the federal government had failed to hold a de-escalation strategy which Moscow to intervene militarily in the Ukraine.

But, with with US equities a fraction away from all time highs, and just barely below 2000, shouldn’t there be no risk of any conflict according to the all-knowing market, which is never wrong?

Why Do the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Own a Patent on Ebola “Invention?”

Snip: ”

On one hand, it’s worth pointing out that the CDC’s patent on Ebola is at least partially focused on methods for screening for Ebola and treating Ebola victims with drugs or vaccines. This seems like a worthwhile precaution against an infectious disease that clearly threatens lives.

On the other hand, why the patent? Patenting Ebola seems as odd as trying to patent cancer or diabetes. Why would a government organization claim to have “invented” this infectious disease and then claim a monopoly over its exploitation for commercial use?

Does the CDC hope to collect a royalty on Ebola vaccines? Is it looking to “invent” more variants and patent those too?”

Didn’t know Tice used to read here.

Believe it or not there was another guest on CNBS yesterday named Abigail Doolittle who also said the SM could drop 30-60%. Hard to see a 30% correction when we haven’t had a 10% correction in over 3 years.

I’ll say this, world bond markets seem to be saying trouble is on the horizon. 10 yr. @ 2.34% and falling.

Botswana blocks at least 100 copper trucks from Congo over Ebola fear

Posted by ipso facto @ 10:12 on August 28, 2014

Botswana has barred entry to anyone traveling from the Democratic Republic of Congo to prevent an Ebola outbreak in that country from spreading, leaving more than 100 trucks carrying copper from Congo stranded at a border crossing.

The vehicles, hauling copper to South Africa from the continent’s biggest producer of the metal, have been in neighbouring Zambia since Monday, when they were denied entry into Botswana, The Times of Zambia reported.

Congo was the world’s sixth-largest producer of copper last year, according to U.K.-based commodity-research company CRU Group, and the largest producer of cobalt, a mineral used in rechargeable batteries.

GASOLINE PRICES DOWN 30 CENTS A GALLON SINCE JULY 4th

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 9:58 on August 28, 2014

Maybe that means they are going up soon. Or maybe demand is falling. Or maybe they over produced because of the high prices in the past. Or maybe its just normal abnormal values thanks to COMEX.
