Zero Hedge—–Deutsche Bank Lawyer And Former SEC Enforcement Attorney Found Dead In Apparent Suicide

Clearly Deutsche Bank is slowly becoming Europe’s own JPMorgan – a criminal bank whose past is finally catching up to it, and where legal fine after legal fine are only now starting to slam the banking behemoth. We will find out just what the nature of the latest litigation charge is next week when Deutsche Bank reports, but one thing is clear: in addition to mortgage, Libor and FX settlements, one should also add gold. Recall from around the time when the first DB banker hung himself: it was then that Elke Koenig, the president of Germany’s top financial regulator, Bafin, said that in addition to currency rates, manipulation of precious metals “is worse than the Libor-rigging scandal.”

It remains to be seen if Calogero’s death was also related to precious m
etals rigging although it certainly would not be surprising. What is surprising, is that slowly things are starting to fall apart at the one bank which as we won’t tire of highlighting, has a bigger pyramid of notional derivatives on its balance sheet than even JPMorgan, amounting to 20 times more than the GDP of Germany itself, and where if any internal investigation ever goes to the very top, then Europe itself, and thus the world, would be in jeopardy.

Back on January 26, a 58-year-old former senior executive at German investment bank behemoth Deutsche Bank, William Broeksmit, was found dead after hanging himself at his London home, and with that, set off an unprecedented series of banker suicides throughout the year which included former Fed officials and numerous JPMorgan traders.

Following a brief late summer spell in which there was little if any news of bankers taking their lives, as reported previously, the banker suicides returned with a bang when none other than the hedge fund partner of infamous former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Khan, Thierry Leyne, a French-Israeli entrepreneur, was found dead after jumping off the 23rd floor of one of the Yoo towers, a prestigious residential complex in Tel Aviv.

Just a few brief hours later the WSJ reported that yet another Deutsche Bank veteran has committed suicide, and not just anyone but the bank’s associate general counsel, 41 year old Calogero “Charlie” Gambino, who was found on the morning of Oct. 20, having also hung himself by the neck from a stairway banister, which according to the New York Police Department was the cause of death. We assume that any relationship to the famous Italian family carrying that last name is purely

50 Percent Of American Workers Make Less Than 28,031 Dollars A Year

By Michael Snyder, on October 23rd, 2014

The Social Security Administration has just released wage statistics for 2013, and the numbers are startling. Last year, 50 percent of all American workers made less than $28,031, and 39 percent of all American workers made less than $20,000.

If you worked a full-time job at $10 an hour all year long with two weeks off, you would make $20,000. So the fact that 39 percent of all workers made less than that amount is rather telling. This is more evidence of the declining quality of the jobs in this country. In many homes in America today, both parents are working multiple jobs in a desperate attempt to make ends meet. Our paychecks are stagnant while the cost of living just continues to soar. And the jobs that are being added to the economy pay a lot less than the jobs lost in the last recession. In fact, it has been estimated that the jobs that have been created since the last recession pay an average of 23 percent less than the jobs that were lost. We are witnessing the slow-motion destruction of the middle class, and very few of our leaders seem to care.

Take echinaecea [alcohol-free], elderberry [aka sambuca]-and astragulus–all together– 3-4 times a day when sick or starting to be sick–take 200 micro milligrams of yeast derived selenium from Solgar–once a day–take a veggie-cap B-complex 2-3 times a day–and 50 milligrams of zinc–take vit C every 2-3 hrs but if u get diarreah then cut down–but just remember

DIET IS KING……I have not taken a supplement in the past 10 yrs-and I have not had a cold or flu…but if one is eating junk–and even if one thinks they’re eating healthily [they usually aren’t because they have no clue what is mankinds traditional diet], the supplements are a good idea….

Amnesty for illegals

Because it is so difficult to find a good job in America today, I often recommend to people that they should consider starting their own businesses.

But thanks to the bureaucratic control freaks in the Obama administration and in our state governments, small business ownership in America today is at an all-time low. It is almost as if they don’t want the “little guy” to win. Every avenue of prosperity for the middle class is under assault, and there does not appear to be much hope that this will change any time soon.

And the truly frightening thing is that this is about as good as things are going to get for the middle class. We are rapidly approaching the next major wave of our long-term economic decline, but that is a topic for a future article.

Maya @ 23:30 Colloidal Silver and Ebola

Posted by silverngold @ 9:47 on October 25, 2014

Good Morning Maya,

Thanks for your input. I’m not encouraging or discouraging colloidal silver’s use. I’m simply passing along information as I receive it. Whether CS will work effectively or not against Ebola I do not know, but I do know that some CS manufacturers advertise that it kills both viral and bacterial infections. One I recently read mentioned that to be effective against virus, like the flu virus, it had to be in lower (smaller) ppm particle size. That particular one said 5 ppm to target virus during the flu season, but 10 ppm the rest of the year for bacterial infections.

I’ve been taking CS daily, about 3 oz ~ 10 ppm as verified by my Hanna meter, since early 2000. I’ve never had the flu (or a flu shot) but have occasionally (like every few years) had a light cold, so I agree that at 10 ppm my CS has not been totally effective against all virus, but it must be partially effective since I am constantly exposed to colds from my school aged kids but I seldom get them.

As I mentioned, I think it is also very important to keep ones immune system in top shape by taking vitamin D3 and vitamin C. I take 8000 iu’s of vitamin D3 and 2000 mg of Liposomal vitamin C daily. I’m confident that along with the CS my immune system is in good working order. I’m not a Native American medicine man but I am part Native American and live my life close to the land.

Ebola’s Impact on Sierra Leone’s Once Flourishing Business Sector

Sierra Leone’s horrific Ebola outbreak is a humanitarian and health disaster which is impacting all aspects of society and daily life. Sadly, recent reports and projections indicate that the worst is far from over. The Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation’s latest figures – a vast underestimate of reality according to most international observers – showed 451 new cases in the seven days ending October 15th. This figure represents more than 15 percent of the total cases diagnosed in the country since May. Far from abating, the crisis is accelerating.

Underneath the acute and very real health issues facing thousands of Sierra Leoneans, is an equally nefarious and perhaps even more far reaching series of issues facing the business and investor communities. Jonathan Shafer, CEO and Chairman of First Step Economic Opportunity Zone (a subsidiary of faith-based humanitarian organization, World Hope International) and Managing Director of Africa Felix Juice, Sierra Leone’s only value added exporter, has had the unpleasant opportunity to view Ebola’s negative commercial impact firsthand.

Ernest Bai Koroma

“Our juice factory, which buys fruit from more than 5,000 small farmers, has been shuttered since August for a variety of reasons – nearly all Ebola related,” said Shafer during an email interview. “My COO and Chief Technician – both expatriates – have evacuated the country and have no immediate plans to return. Checkpoints and new public transit restrictions have greatly increased the time and cost for my employees to reach the factory. Banks and other critical businesses are no longer open for a full day making even the simplest tasks extremely difficult to complete. As a result of all these issues, our 125 highly capable local employees are unable to make fruit juice products for our customers in Europe and throughout West Africa.”

Shafer’s situation is not unique. Nearly all ‘non-critical’ expats have evacuated the country, meaning that most businesses requiring any kind of international managerial assistance have either halted operations or are functioning at a fraction of capacity. Employee wages are either being temporarily reduced or completely eliminated via layoffs. Africa Felix has thus far been able to avoid drastically reducing its own workforce, but Shafer stated that any deepening of the crisis will certainly force the option to be reexamined.

Planned investments and new projects are also being delayed or halted as a result of Ebola’s widespread impact. Since the conclusion of the civil war in early 2002, Sierra Leone has enjoyed growing attention from the international investment community, attracting billions of investment dollars in industries as diverse as manufacturing, agriculture, mining, tourism, and bio-fuel. Planned investments in steel, power, mining, and agro-processing that were announced in late 2013 and early 2014 are now on hold until the uncertainty surrounding the length and depth of the Ebola crisis can be brought into some kind of focus.

Shafer has noticed a marked shift in his interactions with the investment community in the last two months. “Initially, investor fear was primarily limited to those players who were inexperienced in the African setting. Seasoned investors saw the initial outbreak as merely a standard risk of doing business in the region. However, in recent weeks, as the crisis has deepened and uncertainty of outcome has increased, the tone from even experienced investors has changed. Uncertainty really is the key word here.”

Business planning and investment decisions are very difficult in an environment where the World Bank is projecting widely divergent scenarios with possible 2015 regional GDP losses ranging from $1.6 billion to $25.2 billion – two very different outcomes with very different business responses. With so much uncertainly, no one knows how the underlying health crisis will play out. As a result, Shafer warns that currently operating businesses will suffer and hundreds of millions in investment dollars will remain parked on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

During his first term, Sierra Leone’s President Ernest Bai Koroma boldly and repeatedly declared to anyone who cared to listen that his country was “open for business”. Thanks to the efforts of thousands of Sierra Leoneans, that hopeful statement was largely actualized with GDP growth rates of 15.2% and 13% in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Huge gains were made, and are, sadly, now being conceded. According to the current Finance Minister, Kaifala Marah, speaking during a recent interview, “every gain that we have made has been lost.”

At the moment, Sierra Leone is hoping that the international community responds forcefully enough to the Ebola health crisis so that its impact is not overshadowed by the effects of the Ebola business crisis. In the meantime, Africa Felix, and many companies like it, will be biding its time and planning for a future where Sierra Leone is, once again, “open for business”.

Nigerian Mogul Tony O. Elumelu Floats $9 Million Empowerment Fund For Distressed Communities

Wealthy Nigerian banker Tony O. Elumelu has floated  a $9 million Fund to empower and support residents of distressed communities across Nigeria.

The Elumelu Nigeria Empowerment Fund is an outcome of a $16 Million pledge the businessman made in July during a Presidential Fundraising Dinner for the Victims Support Fund, an initiative that was established by Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to provide relief for those who have been adversely affected by insurgency and conflict in Nigeria over the last few years.  Elumelu had immediately disbursed N1 billion (approximately $6.1 million) to the Victims Support Fund shortly after making the pledge, while the remaining N1.5 billion now serves as the initial seeding for the Elumelu Nigeria Empowerment Fund. According to a press release issued by the Tony Elumelu Foundation, the Fund will focus on helping to revitalize the economies of post conflict and disaster communities across Nigeria.

The fund was officially launched on Thursday in Abuja by President Goodluck Jonathan, who applauded Elumelu for his generosity.

Tony O. Elumelu, CON

“Rehabilitating distressed communities will require interventions not just from the government, but also from the private sector.  Therefore, I am pleased to see that Tony Elumelu, one of our private sector leaders, stepped up in a big way – by making a major contribution to the Victim Support Fund and that his effort did not end there as he has now created the Elumelu Nigeria Empowerment Fund,” said Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Solely seeded and managed by The Tony Elumelu Foundation, The Elumelu Nigeria Empowerment Fund, which would operate as an independent non-profit organization, will work to transform  communities that have been devastated by natural disasters and insurgency, into prosperous and economically sustainable communities. The Fund will create opportunities and empower people in affected communities across Nigeria enabling them to rebuild their lives and businesses whilst instilling a sense of economic empowerment for the long-term. In line with Elumelu’s goal of creating more entrepreneurs across Africa, the fund will support entrepreneurs in the affected regions by providing access to start-up funding, mentorship and capacity building.

“By making social investments and grants available in select distressed communities across Nigeria, the Elumelu Nigeria Empowerment Fund will economically empower individuals and communities by creating and fostering an enabling environment that will support a new generation of entrepreneurs,” said Elumelu. “Entrepreneurs create jobs, opportunity, and wealth at the local level and in doing so, they play a vital role in reducing poverty and addressing a range of social issues that cause conflict and instability,” Elumelu continued.

The fund will be managed by Katja Nwator, a staff of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, and will support a range of initiatives in these communities, including projects that will tackle environmental issues, restore damaged infrastructure as well as social welfare projects. By helping to restore these communities the Fund will create the platform for a thriving entrepreneurial environment.

Tony O. Elumelu, one of Africa’s wealthiest and most distinguished business leaders, is the founder of Heirs Holdings, a pan-African proprietary investment company based in Nigeria and well as the Tony Elumelu Foundation, an African-based, African-funded philanthropic organization that supports entrepreneurship in Africa by enhancing the competitiveness of the African private sector.

Africa’s Richest Man Aliko Dangote To Support Liberia In Fight Against Ebola

Africa’s wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote, has promised to assist Liberia as the West African country fights against the spread of the Ebola virus.

Dangote made the commitment during a telephone conversation with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Friday, promising to assist the country with medical personnel and other human and material resources to contain the spread of the disease.

According to a statement issued by Liberia’s’ Executive Mansion, Dangote said his philanthropic organization, the Dangote Foundation, will work closely with the Liberian government to determine what assistance can be provided ranging from medical personnel as well as other professional healthcare workers.

President Sirleaf thanked the Nigerian billionaire for his promised assistance and praised the Nigerian businessman for reaching out to the government and people of Liberia.

Aliko Dangote

Liberia is among the countries worst hit by Ebola, along with Sierra Leone and Guinea. The country accounts for more than half of all the official Ebola deaths, estimated at more than 2,400. Overall, the number of dead across Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea has exceeded 4,500.
