INSIDE ELON MUSK’S $1.4 BILLION SCORE

Posted by eeos @ 16:02 on December 6, 2014

The crazy, real-life story of how the CEO of electric-car maker Tesla dazzled, seduced, squeezed, bluffed, manipulated, and prodded his way to epic state incentives to build a massive battery plant in the Nevada desert.

It’s hard to overstate the mystique surrounding Elon Musk these days. He has been compared to Steve Jobs, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison. At 43, he’s the CEO of Tesla Motors, an electric-car company so white-hot that it speaks of someday vanquishing the internal combustion engine. He’s chairman of SolarCity, whose panels hold the promise of helping save the world from global warming and fossil fuels. His rocket company, SpaceX, wants to travel to Mars. Never mind that such audacious goals won’t be realized for decades, if ever. Musk’s brilliance, his vision, and the breadth of his ambition make him the one-man embodiment of the future.

The frenzy that attends his stature was visible on Oct. 9, when Musk unveiled two enhancements to Tesla’s Model S before 4,000 people at an airport in Hawthorne, Calif. Musk took the spotlit outdoor stage at 9 p.m.—an hour late, like a rock star—wearing a black velvet blazer. Smartphones flashed; bloggers live-streamed his jokes. Standing in front of his image on a giant videoscreen, Musk showed off the model’s four-wheel drive and autopilot features.

Musk wowed the crowd with the $120,000 sedan, which goes 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. “It’s like taking off from a carrier deck,” he said. Musk took reporters for a ride, leaving them slack-jawed at the S’s acceleration and technology. No matter that, as others pointed out, competitors already have some auto-drive capabilities. As Charlie Rose put it on CBS This Morning, “Elon Musk is the kind of guy you want to invest in.” Read more

12 Changes That Will Affect Doctors’ Income in 2015

November 25, 2014

GET READY FOR SOME BIG CHANGES IN 2015
The new year will bring several developments, some of which may be troubling to physicians, and others that may bring welcome news. These changes can affect physicians’ incomes to varying degrees and are likely to have at least some effect on many or most practices.

The following list highlights these upcoming challenges. See which ones may affect you, and what you should watch out for.

1. THE RISE OF HIGH DEDUCTIBLES
In 2015, physicians will have to squarely face the growing problem of high deductibles of $1000 or more and find better ways to collect them for patients. Eight out of 10 covered employees now have a deductible, and 18% have deductibles of at least $2000, according to a 2014 study[1] by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires everyone to buy insurance, and people are drawn to high-deductible plans because they mean lower premiums. Coverage in the ACA’s health insurance exchanges, or marketplaces, is pushing levels even higher. A bronze plan has an average deductible of $5000 for individuals and $10,000 for families, according to a report[2] by the consulting firm HealthPocket.

“Deductibles are out of control,” said Brette Williams, who is in charge of provider education at Everest AR Management in Gainesville, Florida. When patients with high deductibles come in for care, doctors’ offices risk not getting paid or having to make major, repeated efforts in order to get paid. Williams said that in a growing number of cases, the patient—not the insurer—is the main source of payment. The combination of high deductibles and a weak economy mean that “patients today owe more and have less,” she said.

Increasingly, physicians’ offices have to send delinquent bills to collection agencies, which provide a fraction of the payment owed. According a report[3] by NerdWallet, a service that reports medical costs, one in five Americans will be contacted by a collection agency about a medical bill.

Practices can fall back on several familiar methods to help ensure payment, such as asking for payment up front or putting patients on a payment plan. They can also provide cost estimates in advance, which a growing number of patients are already demanding. “There is more pressure to provide estimates of what services cost,” said Robert Wergin, MD, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

Patients who are sensitive to costs are more inclined to shop around for healthcare services. New websites, such as Compared Care and Clear Health Costs, provide cost estimates for a variety of medical services in selected metropolitan areas. And in May, Aetna, Humana, United Healthcare, and the Health Care Cost Institute announced plans to start a website showing price ranges and average reimbursement for healthcare services.

that was copied tried to mention what it’s about but when I pasted it the thing disappeared. So putting this last so you know what I’m talking about. High deductibles causing payment issues less doctors can formulate reasonable payment plans. Thanks to Obama care people may start being turned down like years ago, were going backwards because if this unaffordable unconstitutional insurance that’s causing losses for health care. Ones may fare better if they get a reasonable monthly payment plan. The sites they give help you shop around by checking usual costs.

Well your a trooper, gonna get a blood test. Wonder what they’d say though if you asked for a elevated barium or aluminum test while your at it. You were around ship yards too who knows what you could of picked up then, hope nothing. Best medicine in prevention we all know but were not always compliant so helps too look for back up plans.

You don’t see any reference to Vita A cuz it was a sole trial of vita D3. Lol  the site is called Medscape. A poster here into nutrition Israeli mentioned Something about the vita  A report and pretty sure he said it was false and recirculated over and over through the years. Haven looked into it that much so can’t give any personal opinion on it myself. If he’s around maybe he can comment on it.

thanks for posting that link

I have struggled to guess how the Russians & Chinese fit into the NWO banking scene. this news starts to shed some light on that – it appears not all Ruskies are on board the bus.

I wasn’t in Germany in 1938, but reading the link made me think it must have been similiar. let us see if this ‘investigation” leads to anything.

Next inflection is 8th Dec and today is within one trading day of it.

Today’s price movement therefore can be formative in the setting of new price levels that matter, and as Oscar Carboni observed, lately Fridays seem to contain the more active trading in the gold market.

Which means that the close for this week represents the result of a bear challenge to measure what sort of spine the new bulls have.

Got this off Argentus’s forum over tuh Turdville=Price could even retest 1526 then make a new low.

I’d like a bit of excitement,

I’d like a bit of excitement, feel free to go for it. But that’s not what I mean Ivars – I mean that every single chart you’ve posted for weeks (months?) is one showing resistance. I’m sure you’re aware of this but I’ll remind you – price goes in two directions. Even if there is a bottom in 2015 exactly as you anticipate, price will still move there not in a straight line but will zig zag. Not sophisticated stuff really.

Anyone who, in the course of this movement, posts only resistance and never support, is not looking at the charts with a clear head. Price could even retest 1526 then make a new low. Who knows? I don’t. But I do know that looking for the bearish interpretation of every tick on the chart is not sensible analysis, it is fitting the charts to what you already think.

Hi Goldielock and the rest of the gang,

The article you mentioned is interesting, however I do not see any reference to vit A in the article,
and as a matter of interest I have read quite awhile ago that excessive consumption of vit A contributed to increase in lung cancer, I think that was about 20 years ago.
While on the subject of nutrition and vitamin supplements I came across an excellent website that appear to have scientific approach to use of Vitamins and minerals in combating some of the diseases,
unfortunately nothing on COPD directly.

Could you put up a link to the article ?

4th Marriage……

Posted by treefrog @ 8:58 on December 6, 2014

A woman who had been married three times walked into a bridal shop one day and told the sales clerk that she was looking for a wedding gown for her fourth wedding.

“Of course, madam,” replied the sales clerk, “exactly what type and color dress are you looking for?”

The bride to be said, “A long frilly white dress with a veil.”

The sales clerk hesitated a bit, then said, “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but gowns of that nature are considered more appropriate for brides who are being married the first time – for those who are a bit more innocent, if you know what I mean? Perhaps ivory or sky blue would be nice?”

“Well,” replied the customer, a little peeved at the clerk’s directness, “I can assure you that a white gown would be quite appropriate. Believe it or not, despite all my marriages, I remain as innocent as a first-time bride. You see, my first husband was so excited about our wedding, he died as we were checking into our honey moon hotel. My second husband and I got into such a terrible fight in the limo on our way to our honeymoon hotel that we had that wedding annulled immediately and never spoke to each other again.”

“What about your third husband?” asked the sales clerk.

“That one was a Democrat,” said the woman, “and every night for four years, he just sat on the edge of the bed and told me how good it was going to be — but nothing ever happened.”

News about COPD and vita D but keep in mind that vita D is one vitamin you have to monitor doses as it is retained in the body. Also read the last paragraph carefully.

Vitamin D supplementation prevented moderate to severe exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in patients with vitamin D deficiency in a multicenter, double-blind, randomized controlled trial. The results were published online December 2 in the Lancet.

“Contrary to expectation, we did not find evidence that vitamin D3 prevented upper respiratory infections, either in the study population as a whole or in the subgroup of participants with lower baseline vitamin D status,” write Adrian Martineau, PhD, from the Barts and London School of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom. The supplements also did not affect the primary endpoint, which was time to first upper respiratory infection or moderate or severe exacerbation.

The vitamin was given in bolus doses of 3 mg (120,000 IU) six times over the course of a year. The study included 122 patients in the treatment group, all of whom received at least one dose of vitamin D, and 94 completed the study protocol. The control group included 118 patients, 85 of whom completed the study protocol. Patient characteristics were similar between groups, including the fact that 87%, in total, had a vitamin D deficiency, defined as serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels less than 75 nmol/L, at baseline.

Treatment did not affect the median time to first moderate or severe COPD exacerbation (adjusted hazard ratio [AHR] 0.86; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.60 – 1.24; P = .42) or time to first upper respiratory infection (AHR, 0.95; 95% CI, 0.69 – 1.31; P = .75). The researchers defined exacerbations as moderate if they were treated with systemic steroids or antibiotics but did not result in a visit to the emergency room; those that did were classified as severe.

The investigators considered whether baseline vitamin D deficiency affected the time to exacerbation or infection and found that patients with baseline levels of less than 50 nmol/L had a reduced risk for moderate or severe exacerbation (AHR, 0.57; 95% CI, 0.35 – 0.92; P = .021) with vitamin D administration.

The authors had conducted a previous trial on patients with less severe COPD, in which they found that supplementation was helpful for patients with deficiency at baseline but had the OPPOSITE effect in those with higher levels. They write, “Taken together, findings from these two trials suggest that vitamin D supplementation should be offered to COPD patients with lower vitamin D status to reduce the risk of moderate or severe exacerbation.”

If they had any sense which they apparently don’t they need to hire more minorities in minority dominant areas as well as whites who have had experience with minorities and not whites who have none other than they live on the other side if the tracks. As far as the other cop who strangled a man while the other stood around they should fire the whole lot of them and replace them with minorities. If minorities were smart they would demand it.
