Was watching part of the movie ” The Longest Day.” A sailor won 2500 gambling on a ship  and I wondered how much that would be these days so looked it up on a inflation calculator. Rounded 33,784  wow then gold in 1944 was 35 dollars that would buy about 71 and buying 71 today would cost about 85k which would be worth more than 2 1/2 times dollar amount.

addendum buying silver even trade  then would only be around what 38k present off top of head but one thing it shows it would of held it’s value through the years compared to paper  if you could split it up in gifts so the tax man doesn’t steal the value.
