Did you ever hear the mass media say…”We can’t raise the minimum wage because it would kill jobs”?
Well, in my area we have lots of closed up businesses. Because the rents are too high. Small businesses are afraid to pass on the increase to customers. Why are the rents too high?
Because the property taxes are too high, forcing the land lords to pass it on to tenants. Eventually the business closes down and they lay off employees.
Why are the property taxes so high? Because tax absorbing public employees in unions get very generous pay and benefits.
You will NEVER hear in the gov’t media….
”We can’t raise public employees wage because it will kill jobs.”
But that’s what happened. On account of constant raises for school teachers, police, the highway dept, the librarian, etc etc, the rents go up, kill profits, close stores and kill jobs.”
Note:
Minimum wage in 1962 was $1.25/hr. 1000 times minimum wage $1,250 bought the cheapest new car, a loaded VW Beetle. A stripped one was $995. 1000 times todays $7.50/hr is $7,500. No new cars are $7500. The cheapest new car today with sales tax etc $19,000?? So minimum wage today should be $19/hr adjusted for inflation.
Henry Ford paid is workers double the market rate. $5 per day instead if $2.50/day. To enable his employees to buy his cars, to increase production numbers, and get per unit costs lower. It worked.
Home Depot, Wall Mart, etc hired foreigners for their production. They are closing a Sears and Wall Mart near me on Long Island. Property taxes on a small home here are $9,000 and up. Some small stores have $60,000 tax bills.
Henry Ford would NEVER have his cars made overseas.
