PARIS — As officials struggled Wednesday to explain why a jet with 150 people on board crashed in relatively clear skies, an investigator said evidence from a cockpit voice recorder indicated one pilot left the cockpit before the plane’s descent and was unable to get back in.

A senior military official involved in the investigation described “very smooth, very cool” conversation between the pilots during the early part of the flight from Barcelona to Düsseldorf. Then the audio indicated that one of the pilots left the cockpit and could not re-enter.

“The guy outside is knocking lightly on the door and there is no answer,” the investigator said. “And then he hits the door stronger and no answer. There is never an answer.”

He said, “You can hear he is trying to smash the door down.”

While the audio seemed to give some insight into the circumstances leading up to the Germanwings crash, it also left many questions unanswered

the last few months have convinced me that retail customers are mainly out of the market. I used to be certain that inflation was going to rage but tptb have successfully kept all the new fiat in the canyons of Wall Street. I now believe oboma is going to throw us under the bus at the most opportune moment. A dollar devaluation on a weekend would be the coup de grace of the usd and the financial markets.

obamas buddies will be fully positioned before the announcement, make the move and the small correction and proclaim themselves saviors as they buy the remaining pieces for nothing . I truly believe phiz is the only way to survive since markets and currencies will get hammered.

Bipartisan bill would repeal Patriot Act, cut down American surveillance

Published time: March 25, 2015 01:37

Reuters/Jonathan Ernst

Reuters/Jonathan Ernst

The bipartisan Surveillance State Repeal Act, if passed, would repeal dragnet surveillance of Americans’ personal communications, overhaul the federal domestic surveillance program, and provide protections for whistleblowers.

House lawmakers Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) are co-sponsoring bill H.R.1466, which was introduced on Tuesday and would repeal the 2001 Patriot Act, limit powers of the FISA Amendments Act, and prohibit retaliation against federal national security whistleblowers, according to The Hill.

The Patriot Act contains many provisions that violate the Fourth Amendment and have led to a dramatic expansion of our domestic surveillance state,” said Rep. Massie in a statement. “Our Founding Fathers fought and died to stop the kind of warrantless spying and searches that the Patriot Act and the FISA Amendments Act authorize. It is long past time to repeal the Patriot Act and reassert the constitutional rights of all Americans.”

Specifically, the bill would revoke all the powers of the Patriot Act, and instruct the Director of National Intelligence and the Attorney General to destroy any information collected under the FISA Amendments Act concerning any US person not under investigation.

It would repeal provisions of the FISA Amendments Act to ensure surveillance of email data only occurs with a valid warrant based on probable cause. The bill would also prohibit the government from mandating that manufacturers build mechanisms allowing the government to bypass encryption in order to conduct surveillance.

Additionally, the bill would protect a federal whistleblower’s efforts to expose mismanagement, waste, fraud, abuse, or criminal behavior. It would also make retaliation against anyone interfering with those efforts – such as threatening them with punishment or termination – illegal.

Really, what we need are new whistleblower protections so that the next Edward Snowden doesn’t have to go to Russia or Hong Kong or whatever the case may be just for disclosing this,” Massie said.

There have been previous attempts to limit dragnet surveillance under the Patriot Act since former National Security Agency analyst Edward Snowden leaked information regarding the programs in 2013, but the Senate bill introduced in 2013 never reached the floor for a vote.

The warrantless collection of millions of personal communications from innocent Americans is a direct violation of our constitutional right to privacy,” said Rep. Pocan in a statement.

Revelations about the NSA’s programs reveal the extraordinary extent to which the program has invaded Americans’ privacy. I reject the notion that we must sacrifice liberty for security – we can live in a secure nation which also upholds a strong commitment to civil liberties. This legislation ends the NSA’s dragnet surveillance practices, while putting provisions in place to protect the privacy of American citizens through real and lasting change.”

Portions of the Patriot Act are due for renewal on June 1.

BTW, what did I post today that created the outburst?? There was nothing conspitatorial that I could find. Just statements of others who might have differing opinions, but most came right from the source. I think only good can come from exposing everything to the light of day so it can be sorted out, discussed, and accepted or eliminated, but closing ones eyes is IMO not the way to become enlightened.

News on Monsanto and Cancer—Take Action to Ban Roundup Herbicide

Dear silverngold,

There’s news on Monsanto and cancer. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) panel of cancer experts published its latest review of the cancer risks of glyphosate (the main ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup) and concluded that the herbicide is probably causing cancer in humans.

This is the evidence we need to demand a ban and it has come at the perfect time. Glyphosate is currently under review by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has the power to ban its use in Roundup, or anywhere else.

TAKE ACTION! Tell the EPA to ban glyphosate.

Monsanto uses its clout to force peer-reviewed journals to retract the most damning science on glyphosate. That’s what happened to the Séralini study that showed massive tumors, premature death and kidney and liver damage in rats exposed to Roundup at levels allowed in drinking water and genetically modified food. WHO reached its conclusion that glyphosate probably causes cancer without considering Séralini’s study or the work of other cancer researchers who have been victims of Monsanto witch hunts.

Monsanto has already called for a retraction of the WHO report, but independent scientists like Dave Schubert, head of the cellular neurobiology laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California, are rushing to its defense.

“There are a number of independent, published manuscripts that clearly indicate that glyphosate … can promote cancer and tumor growth,” he said. “It should be banned.”

The EPA says it will look at the WHO report as part of its review process for glyphosate. We’ve got to hold them to it—and make sure they give it proper weight.

And, we have to continue to press the EPA to review all of science on glyphosate, from the studies that Monsanto has wrongly discredited (like the Séralini study that eventually got republished) to the studies that just came out this week that show glyphosate and Roundup herbicide cause antibiotic resistance, genetic damage, endocrine disruption, and manganese deficiency.

Now that WHO, the world’s most respected health authority, has concluded that glyphosate is probably causing cancer, it’s time for the EPA to take action and once and for all ban this dangerous chemical.

Please tell the U.S. EPA to do its job: Ban glyphosate now.

From In the News (C:BNS) Bank of Nova Scotia

The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition the collapse of a major U.S. gold miner has ensnared Bank of Nova Scotia. The Globe’s Tim Kiladze writes Allied Nevada Gold filed for creditor protection in Delaware on March. As of early February, the lender’s potential loss from a swap agreement signed with Allied Nevada in 2012 amounted to $73-million, but by one calculation, Scotiabank was at risk of losing as much as $90-million. Scotiabank’s fortunes are also tied to its ultimate ranking among bondholders: The higher it ranks, the better its claims on Allied Nevada’s assets. It could take a protracted courtroom battle to determine this hierarchy. It is one of the few high profile cases that stem from a corporate swap exposure. The downfall of Canwest Global Communications is one of the few comparable transactions. In 2012, Allied Nevada sold $400-million worth of seven-year high yield debt that paid an 8.375 per cent annual coupon. When the deal closed, the miner entered into an agreement with Scotiabank that effectively swapped its Canadian dollar proceeds for U.S. dollars. Since then, the loonie has depreciated heavily relative to the U.S. dollar, and Allied Nevada’s fortunes also deteriorated
