If President, Chris Christie Promises War On Legalized Pot In Colorado And Washington
The Islamic State beheaded at least 10 Taliban militants in Afghanistan this week in a remote area in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar region, where the jihadist groups are locked in an intense battle for control over many of the surrounding provinces.
ISIS and the Taliban officially declared war against each other in April of this year, when the Islamic State carried out its first attack there.
According to India.com, a dozen Taliban militants were captured while retreating and trying to flee, following a gun battle with the Afghan security forces. Numan Hatifi of the 201st Corps of the Afghan National Army reportedly said that ISIS has taken control from the Taliban in several regions, even replacing them completely in one district, since May and has begun recruiting candidates for its aspirations of creating a worldwide Islamic Caliphate spawning from the Middle East.
The Taliban has long sent a message to the world that Afghanistan should only be controlled by Afghanis, evidenced by their history of fierce resistance to foreign invasions. Yet, the Islamic State’s creeping infiltration could virtually reshape the security measures implemented in that region. The Taliban have expressed countless times their intent to maintain their scope of influence in Afghanistan and not beyond its borders.
ISIS’s recent inroads there may have been an incentive for the Taliban to send a delegation to Iran recently. Although initial reports surfaced suggesting it was not immediately clear why they would open such dialogue when considering the Taliban’s Sunni practice of Islam views Iran’s Shia version as apostasy, it increasingly seems to be a possibility that they are seeking Iran’s help to thwart the Islamic State’s creeping influence there.
Trouble brewing in South Africa’s gold mining sector
South Africa’s radical Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) is planning to start wildcat strike in the gold sector if its rival union and mining companies extend wage deal to its members.
“If NUM (National Union of Mineworkers) and Chamber of Mines want extend their deal to us, we will sit down whether it’s legal or not. We will strike,” Amcu’s President, Joseph Mathunjwa, said Sunday, Reuters reports.
The Amcu is the same union that last year led a five-month strike that crippled the country’s platinum industry.
Its members are demanding to be paid more than double at gold mining firms including AngloGold Ashanti (JSE:ANG) (NYSE:AU) and Harmony Gold (JSE:HAR) (NYSE:HMY).
According to the country’s labour law, deals between the majority union and employers can be extended to smaller unions.
South Africa’s annual season of labour strikes often turns violent, but a recent wave of deadly xenophobic attacks has heightened fears that this year’s protests could fuel further aggression towards migrant workers.
LONDON – With gold withdrawals from the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) totalling a further 37.1 tonnes for the week ended May 29, the total for the first five months of the year has been an absolutely massive 983 tonnes – the highest total on record for the period. Withdrawals have admittedly fallen back from the high Chinese New Year figures, but they are still running strongly for the time of year. One has to assume that the half year figure will be in the region of 1,150-1,200 tonnes, which will be a record for the period.
Indian gold imports for March – the most recent month for which official figures have just become available – have also been high – at 131.5 tonnes, although admittedly this was at the tail end of the festival season and imports will likely now drop back quite sharply as is usual through the Q2/Q3 period as the monsoon season kicks in and the rural gold buyers tend to hold fire until they have a better idea of how good the rainy season, and the likely crop yield, will be. But with the high 10% import duties on gold one suspects the true figure is rather higher due to gold smuggling. True, April imports are estimated to have fallen back to 81 tonnes, but seasonal factors are kicking in and the pre-monsoon forecasts are not encouraging.

this knucklehead is just like any other letter writer, but with a twist. Marty would still be sitting in his prison cell if he would not have brokered a deal with the insiders. the only reason they gave him a get out of jail free card was so he can misinform and mislead the public about the direction of gold and stand in the way of preserving your purchasing power with other currencies. he’s an insider. A hack. A shill. everything he types is a lie.
