Huge news in junior mining.

Frank Giustra, a highly successful and controversial mining financier, with ties to President Clinton, is getting behind one of the richest and arguably most controversial deposits in all of mining.

And of course I’m talking about Northern Dynasty Minerals’ (TSX:NDM) Pebble deposit in Alaska, vetoed under the Clean Water Act by the EPA in 2014.

Northern Dynasty is acquiring Mr. Giustra’s cashed-up shell company, Cannon Point Resources (TSXV:CNP), as part of up to $20 million in financings announced Monday. Based on a closing price for NDM of $0.45 Monday, Northern Dynasty is paying C$5.805 million in shares for Cannon Point’s $4.7 million treasury. Cannon Point is also loaning $4.25 million to Northern Dynasty during the merger process.

Congrats to you and ms Spot for increasing the Dachshund population!  First dog we had when I was very young was a Dachshund.  Dad named him “Snorkel” because he disappeared running in the tall grass on the farm and would periodically pop up to see where he wanted to go.  I have a soft spot for them.

Chinese Devaluation Extends To 3rd Day – Yuan Hits 4 Year Low, Japan Escalates Currency Race-To-The-Bottom

China stocks are lower and for the 3rd days in a row PBOC devalues the Yuan Fix (now down 4.65% in 3 days). Even before this evening’s date with debasement history, Japan felt the need to step up the currency war rhetoric. Following disappointing Machine Orders data, Abe advisors Hamada warned that “Japan can offset Yuan devaluation by monetary easing,” and so the race to the bottom escalates. China has its own problems as BofAML’s leading economic indicator showed “the foundation for a growth recovery is not solid, facing more downward pressure,” and while confusion reigns over why The PBOC would intervene at the close to strengthen the Yuan last night, the reality is the commitment isn’t to a devaluation for China’s exports, but undoubtedly its actions are directed toward trying to keep the wholesale finance interfaces somewhat orderly.  Finally, China’s devaluation couldn’t come at a worse time for Argentina – about a quarter of the country’s $33.7 billion of foreign reserves are now denominated in yuan, which suffered its biggest loss since 1994 on Tuesday.

Pretty huge volume in GDX. Don’t usually see that on an up day especially closing at the highs.

We have such a long way to go but this has been a nice little three day rally.

it’s also nice to see gold not get slammed even as they’ve managed to bring the SM positive.

Might be an interesting end to summer.
