Between 1950 and 1970, cars (and the USA) were perfected. Simple and user friendly. Shade tree mechanics were the norm. After 1971 Gold backing removed, the USA and its people were stealthily screwed.
These new fangled electronically complicated pieces of crap from foreign countries they call cars need electronic and computer engineers with expensive equipment to diagnose problems.
Your best chance these days is the EXPENSIVE dealer only, (ex.fuel pump $720 after discount plus 3 hours of labor at $125/hr $1,200 with sales tax, mounted inside the tank) and even THEY have problems diagnosing these Rube Goldberg cars. Fuel pump used to be $15 and only two bolts on outside of motor and ten minutes work.
The environment goals and more mileage goals (fetishes) were meant to create artificial unneeded jobs at public expense to over ride out sourcing jobs. This trend of creating jobs that cost the public unneeded expenses has peaked and is reversing. I have seen plenty of evidence after 2008 meltdown and taking out Bernie Maddoff. No time now. Look for signs yourself.
