That was the deal….Dollars could be exchanged for Gold,Oil had to be sold in Dollars,that kept oil prices stable and gave the US plenty of demand for Dollars …The Stupid politicians couldent restrain themselves with all those Dollars floating around …that killed the Goose that laid the Golden Dollar …….No more stability ,No more links to Saudi oil,no more security for Saudi defense .No more Gold restraint because the Dollar was as good as Gold ……NOT ANY MORE ! The Dollar has no restraint from inflation,the oil price has no restraint ,and therefore Gold has no restraint. Now its all about manipulation to keep things stable …How long will that work ? ………. UNTIL it DONT !
