” I WILL JUST HAVE TO FIND SOMEONE THAT DOSENT KNOW IT CANT BE DONE ” and thats exactly what I did ..I hired immigrants that never saw a sewing machine before and trained them my way.I then gave them incentives to make more money than they thought possible .Yes more money than UNION shops would falsely promise .I put them all on piece work .Everybody was guaranteed the minimum wage,but if they earned more than that with higher production they got what they earned.! The end result was I got Production up 30 % higher than any factory in NJ.MY unit production per employee was higher than any Asian country …and I made more money that any Factory in NJ of the same size ….My employees made 20 % more money on average than any Union Shop .I was the only NON Union Shop in North Jersey .My employees were 15 % Italian,20 % Portugese ,15 % BLACK 20% CUBAN,15 % POLISH the rest mixed and Puerto Rican . The Union corruption was Rampant ,the Government corruption was Rampant .The UNion and STATE regulaters were HOODLEMS . The only reason I finally left was the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT sold us out to ASIA just like thay did to North CArolina woollen mills,furniture Factorys Cloth Mills and SHOE FACTORYS .THe DEAL was GIVE US an IN to your countrys BANKING SYSTEM and and MEDIA COMPANIES and we will give you millions of jobs that lower skilled worker can be trained to do. You will get 100 jobs for every one we get in your Banking Insurance and Media businesses. China took the offer ,as most ASIA did…THEY SOLD US OUT ….That was in 1960’s long before the lasting effects and High unemployment became commonplace .We were the FIRST industry to be effected and the US GOVERNMENT said we dont need those jobs anyway ,we are going to be a Service economy ! The public was silent about it because most of them were not effected. NOW its too LATE .
How do you get those required skills back to be competative even if you get the jobs back ? Its going to be a LONG TIME to get back to where we were on a skill basis for those manufacturing jobs..NJ was the best place to be as a Manufacturer ,highly intelligent people ,very productive …. NOW ; I dont know ! You can never go back to how things were …Real UNEMPLOYMENT was 3 % and lower .Wages were high NY manufactured everything ,DRUGS ,BEARINGS,CARS,STEEL CLOTHING,ELECTRONICS . NJ was probably the Greatest Manufacturing place in the Country.
Now most of it is a SLUM. ,so much for Service JOBS….They got SERVICED ALRIGHT !
