I was in manufacturing since 1962. Even before 1962, in high school, I took all the mechanical drawing, wood and metal working courses I could take. I ended up primarily in prototype, precision sheet metal parts. Design fabricate and install.
After 1975 I went to self employment. Unfortunately for me, one piece or short run production, the work was too far advanced and complicated to be able to hire helpers. I was told by one of my customers once that they tried to “find someone else when I took a two week vacation, and realized, there was no one else available that did what I did.
I watched many fellow manufacturing businesses, and my customers go belly up and shut down after 1975. Globalization is global welfare. TPTB (global) must have figured the USA was too fat and spoiled between ’45 and ’75 so started sharing our production of WEALTH with other countries.
THAT’S WHY I HATE IMPORTS.
Regarding unions?? Globalization is a “UNION OF GOVERNMENTS” and that’s why Trump and other patriots, in various nations are fed up. And it’s high time the people of all nations, BUST this GLOBAL UNION OF GOV’Ts. And I see it happening after ’09. I’m happy. 🙂
