Loading ...IF an immigrant wants to be an American ,he must be committed to assimilation ..pure and simple ,he cannot be an American and something else .My Grandfather came here in 1905 from ROME Italy and stated we are Americans now .! He learned to speak English,he sent for his two brothers and sponsored them (commitment to support them until they became self supporting) .He told them go to night school and learn English while you work days .Outside of the House speak English ,but out of respect to your parents its ok to speak the native language to them .He got a job as a CRANE operator and kept it through the depression and wars,(over 60 years)had 12 children none were ever arrested for any crime ,all worked everyday women included.3 died from TB contracted where they worked at age 19-21 (about 1932)One served in the military WW2 ,all got married ( No single moms)(that was considered disgraceful).Yet today there are still NO single MOMS among the Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren .The men worked sometimes two jobs .The women all worked and brought home their paychecks ..Grandfather kept a small portion of it and put it away for them ..When they got married he gave it all back to them and added what he could to give them a big wedding and “good start” . The women always brought something to the marriage ! Thats part of his lesson in savings for the future ..None collected welfare ,none were on dope,some of the men smoked cigarettes until 1970’s but quit.Drinking was moderate only one had an alcohol problem even to today of 100 descendent’s . He was a strict even handed good man with moral character ,always considered himself an American even though he spoke Italian too.He made a committment to America and asked nothing more than a chance to work and help build America .His 93 years were well spent .It started with his commitment ,not with “what are you going to give me”. A few made a few million in business some of the cousins started their own businesses as my father did. Some ran restaurants ,wholesale fish businesses ,clothing manufacturing,road building construction ,hotels ,stock brokers ,Wall st analyst..work WAS THE key ! THE BUSINESS OF AMERICA WAS BUSINESS. JOBS JOBS JOBS made it all possible…My advice is invest in yourself not in some politician who promises to take from someone else and give it to you .Dont be a thiefs partner! RANT over!
