overall management on the aspects that matter in harnessing and harvesting wealth from the earth’s resources. You may wonder why, at the end of two weeks where the media focus was on the Cleveland and Philadelphia gatherings, would I suddenly and out of context post something about the aging infrastructure of the commercially vital Soo Locks. My posting was I suppose partly tongue-in-cheek but the point that struck me was that serious matters such as commercially important infrastructure maintenance or new required infrastructure is not a topic that gets attention, neither at gatherings such as in Cleveland and Philadelphia nor from those why are being set up to form a future administration.
I have no connection to the steel industry, nor any investments related to that sector, but I do feel strongly that both Canada and United States have fundamental national interests in maintaining and enhancing the commercially vital transportation links such as railways, pipelines, and river and lake transportation routes, including the industrially important canals and locks. Without an assured future for these commercial arteries most other political issues become irrelevant points of debate.
I hope that commercial freight movement from Lake Superior into the Atlantic and into world markets will continue and grow in the years ahead. Best wishes. Equiz
