VANCOUVER (miningweekly.com) – Gold major Barrick Gold has poured first gold at its South Arturo mine, located in Nevada’s Carlin Trend, its 40% joint venture (JV) partner Premier Gold Mines reported Monday.

Barrick, as the operator through its subsidiary Barrick Gold Exploration, processes the ore from South Arturo at its Goldstrike facility located about 5 km to the south.

White House defends Obama evading Senate on Paris climate deal

By Valerie Richardson – The Washington Times – Monday, August 29, 2016

The White House on Monday defended President Obama’s decision to enter into the Paris climate accord without Senate ratification but stopped short of confirming a Chinese report that he will do so this week during his trip to China.

Still, it would surprise no one if Mr. Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping were to announce the ratification of the sweeping climate change agreement before the Sunday opening of the Group of 20 summit in Hangzhou, Zhejiang.

White House senior adviser Brian Deese said the president has the legal authority to ratify the accord without the two-thirds Senate vote required for treaties. He said the pact negotiated by 195 countries in December is merely an “executive agreement.”

“The president will use his authority that has been used in dozens of executive agreements in the past to join and formally deposit our instrument of acceptance, and therefore put our country as a party to the Paris Agreement,” Mr. Deese said at a White House press conference.

He noted that both presidents announced in March that they “would seek to formally join the Paris Agreement in 2016.”

“That’s a process that is quite well-established in our existing legal system and in the context of international

Hurricane Madeline

Posted by Maya @ 8:07 on August 30, 2016

…has strengthened stupendously to a Cat. 4 “Major” hurricane, and the track has adjusted to even closer past the south point of the Big Island.  We’ve seen this before.  Those huge mountains knock the circulation and scrape off all the rain.  Tomorrow will be a bad day for the island.  Hurricane Watch posted.

I’m staying with friends in the concrete Hi-rises of Honolulu, a safe distance inland and elevated.  The ranch will be OK if that huge tree in the next lot doesn’t come down in that direction.

Another Federal Power Grab

The international Conservation congress meets in Honolulu this week, and Obummer is expected to disrupt traffic in the city on Wednesday… about the time the Big Island is getting battered by Madeline some 250 miles away.   The O man plans to announce the huge expansion of the marine sanctuary of the Northwest Hawaiian Islands… I think I heard an area 18 times the size of Rhode Island.

Local fishing industry opposed the deal, as it closes out important commercial fishing grounds for the state.  But homerule means nothing to power goons.

EPI PEN …Research Funded with Taxpayer money ..The Pen that keeps on Giving

A child uses an EpiPen (YouTube)

Even though Heather Bresch has called the EpiPen her “baby,” its creation was only made possible through a contract with the Defense Department.

According to USUncut, the Pentagon approached the device’s inventor, Sheldon Kaplan, in 1973 to enlist his help in developing a way for soldiers to administer a nerve gas antidote. Before being made available to consumers as the EpiPen, Kaplan’s device was known as the ComboPen.

However, members of his family told the Tampa Bay Times that Kaplan never made royalties off of his creation, since he left the company where he developed it, Survival Technology, before it hit the market.

“He was not famous; he was not wealthy,” said Kaplan’s son Michael Kaplan. “And I don’t think he would’ve liked to be. I don’t think he expected that.”

Kaplan died on Monday, about a month after being diagnosed with liver cancer.

The EpiPen garnered national attention this week following reports that Bresch, CEO of the pharmaceutical company Mylan NV, hiked the price of the device from $47 for a single pen nine years ago to the current price of $284. As STAT reported, Bresch — the daughter of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) — faces a possible Senate investigation.

I appreciate your offer of Southern Hospitality, but I think I’m going to stick it out here on the rocks. And upon a microsecond of serious thought, I gotta agree with you that hooking up with RNO might be a little risky to my health. I’ll stick with hurricanes and volcanoes. And the news just keeps getting bigger as those hurricanes strengthened today to Cat3 and Cat4, respectively. Some weakening expected before Madeline passes south of the big island at tropical storm strength. All the moisture hangs around to the northeast of the cyclone center, and it is all that rain baggage that gets scraped off when it hits TWO 14,000ft. volcanic mountains. Expect epic rainfalls… the kind that carve waterfalls into hard volcanic rock on that windward side of the island. Now where did I leave my scuba gear..?
