Personally, I think America is at a cross roads. We can choose to continue with current path which to me is described by the ‘broad and wide’ highway that leads to destruction. Or we can heed the warning signs and turn back were we place value on truth and honesty, even if it is a harder, more narrow path.
Prayer is a funny thing. Its one of those things I think you have to try it yourself to see if it works. I have tried not praying and for me my life seems better when I throw out a prayer every now and then. Don’t care much for religion of any brand. But I do like prayer. I want to share a little experience of late that made me pause and think about prayer.
A good friend of mine was raised in a couple churches as a young lad. One was Methodist and one Baptist. Like me he rejected most of those teachings during his middle years of life but it seems we both decided there was a Creator, and have made some adjustments in our thinking. Well, Danny started reading his bible, trying to get a larger perspective of things spiritual and started praying more. His first wife and died a number of years earlier and one of nervous his prayers was asking God for a ‘good Christian woman’. Soon Danny met a beautiful gal, but she was 15 years younger and from Taiwan to boot. But their love grew and Danny finally got up the nerve to approach her and clearing his throat and trying not to appear nervous finally asked her, ” What religion are you?” Her reply was simply this, “Danny, my people pray.”
It has been 15 years since they were married. And I have to tell you, I have never experienced anything like the love those two share. It is such a pleasure when I am invited to their home. You can feel the serenity, the peace, and the love they have for one another. So fascinated by their loving relationship I once put my ‘man card’ down for a moment, cause ‘Real Men’ don’t ask such things, and asked him, ” Danny, how do you do it? You and her, and this love?” He said he honestly did not know, it just happens. But he said there is one thing they both do, and that is each of them are constantly trying to make the other person happy. I thought of the times when Danny and I would be talking and she would appear with a plate of finger food or more coffee. I thought well that’s just how they train the women in that part of the world. But no, there was something more to it, and at that moment I understood. And its mutual as he dotes on her constantly making sure she knows that she is loved, and deeply so.
Well, I don’t know how I got started on that story today. Except I have spent a lot of time thinking about their relationship, and her words, “we pray’. That simple answer has probably meant more to me than a hundred sermons I heard preached in church. “We Pray”, what a simple concept, I think it can even turn around acountry if enough folks try it.
And by the way, I think you and Samb are ok with each other. Seems I remember him posting not that long ago about he had seen enough things in his own life…I think he mentioned or it was in reference to praying. I hope that is not taking something he said out of context, but that is how I remember Samb’s post. I have had the honor of meeting Samb in person once. He and his wife Dani are salt of the earth kinda folks too.
It’s amazing the people that I have crossed paths with in my life. I have learned from each. And I pray, that we get our country back, we deserve much more than what the current folks in Washington are doing to this great land. The choice is ours to make, and God willing.
Keep up the prayers my northern friend.
