Maya @ 2:28 on 16 January. For the photo you posted of the Burlington Northern
engine sitting at Minneapolis enroute during its run from Chicago to Seattle, you added a comment that caught my attention when you said “I always liked the two-tone green livery. It was appropriate for the green forests of the northwest”. The lighter green tone shown on your engine is one I have used for over 40 years now. The tone I use happens to be a Benjamin-Moore mix and I have applied it to outdoor sheds, fences, lawn chairs and other outdoor items that happen to be in or near a forest setting, where the pale green tone blends in so well.
Above is a recent planting of shore pine in a park-like setting where I am a volunteer site steward during a long-term ecological restoration project. The newly planted pine has been ringed by stucco wire to deter browsing by Columbia black-tailed deer. But notice the pale green color of the stakes that are supporting the wire ring. By painting them “Burlington Northern” green the stakes become nearly as invisible as the wire ring when located in a setting of surrounding natural vegetation.
My use of this shade of pale green on so many outdoor projects over so many decades has now become a family joke, as our daughter refers to it as “xxxxxxx green” in which “xxxxxxxx” is our family surname. Once I locate a good image, I am going to post a link that identifies the single-cell green algae, Pleurococcus, that is responsible for the widespread natural occurrence of this pale green coloration on fences, tree bark and other surfaces in regions, like the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, where there is a moist surface for the algae to thrive for much of the year.
Cheers. And I’m glad you like xxxxxxxx green as an earth tone to beautify our surroundings.
A couple years ago I had insurance and
my wife had our baby in the car at the ER parking lot. I had $5K deductible per person to keep my premiums from killing me. The baby was on my insurance before we had her and after 30 days coverage was switched for some scam reason onto my wife’s insurance, so we paid about $8K out of pocket. Should have just had her at home and pocketed the $$$$
About medical coverage for all…
Here’s what I don’t get, before Obamacare we had Medicaid that covered the uninsured and it worked without destroy everyone else’s insurance and premiums. Why the change?
My wife had knee surgery today. She is 59 years old and they HAD to give her a pregnancy test, required if under 65. Are you effing kidding me? They also hooked her up on oxygen while in her room. All requirements.
IMHO – healthcare is just a huge scam meant to enrich insurance and drug companies, not sure about Doctor’s but probably them too.
My son goes to med school next year. Thank God, maybe we’ll get free healthcare in several years when he’s done.
Did you all see the Michelle Obamo Coin yet. You know lady liberty is black
Somehow the afro-american race made our country what it is…a coin is a must right? Yo are those cornrows! Or dirty dreads?
Is Trump pushing socialism on us then?
I see “Insurance for Everyone” as just another bullshit broad stroked tax.
eeos @ 12:15 Insurance for everybody
NO! Providing insurance to everyone through forced taxation is not possibly socialism, it is socialism. Forcing someone to buy insurance and penalizing them if they don’t, is fascism. What an insurance salesman’s dream.
Do you guys think “Insurance for Everybody”
Is possibly socialism?

Maya @ 2:30 Thanks For The Coffee ! My Holiday Will Be Spent Doing Some Honest ‘Trading’
Couple weeks back some friends finally talked me into going with them on a little day trip to Cherokee, NC to visit a new Casino. Short little day trip and I enjoyed myself so much we are heading out in a few to try our hand again. Guess it has been over 20 years since I have been to a casino.
Walked around for a couple hours just taking in all the sights and sounds and watching folks gamble. Finally decided it was time to test the waters so sat down at a Blackjack table. Only had a couple hundred dollars and the table was $25.oo per hand, so figured this fun would last about ten minutes. Nearly an hour later I walked away with nearly $500.00 in winnings. Had a good time with friends picked up a little change, not a bad day. So thought I would go back with them today and see if lightening can strike twice.
Unlike stock trading, I found it relaxing as all get out. Kinda surprised me. For one, I expected to lose, so that took the pressure off from the get go. Second, I had no charts to study, no commentaries to ponder over, no worries about a bankster dropping the hammer right as things got going good. Just plain, simple, have some fun ‘trading’. Found a certain level of honesty at the casino that made for a little fun. So I’m taking the envelope with last time winnings and going to see if they want it back ? Win or lose, it will still be a fun day and a good chance to get away from the markets for a day.
Besides, they provide me with all the free coffee I can drink, and the food aint too bad either. So that’s how I’m choosing to spend the Holiday, just me and some friends, a game of simple Blackjack, and see if Lady Luck shows up again.
Oh yeah, and watching no news today, fake or otherwise. That in itself is worth the trip and chance to get away. Do wish I had learned to count cards, but then again, that would make it seem like work again.
Best to all, and 21’s to all of you, Farmboy

Although I am probably preaching to the choir here, I can say this with ever increasing confidence the longer I stay in office: Never trust government at any level !~ Verify, Verify, Verify.
Gold Train
A rare catch… the old Northern Pacific “Mainstreeter”, still in NP colors after the Burlington Northern merger. I always liked the two-tone green livery. It was appropriate for the green forests of the Northwest. This train was the second-tier train between Chicago and Seattle, making all the small town stops that the ‘North Coast Limited’ flew past.
