Loading ...about a year ago a New Greek/Italian restaurant opened up on my side of town. A true Greek Proprietor, who once traded the Forex Markets from Belgian. Good enough so that he could open his restaurant, and move most of his family to the U.S. He keeps offering to teach me how to trade like a Pro, but I keep letting the fishing get in the way of really sitting down with him and learning anything.
We have talked a lot about his former homeland over coffee. I had my birthday party at his establishment a few months back, and he cooked up one of the Best Deep Dish Pizzas I ever had. And makes a fine Humus to boot!. But that is not what I really want to tell you this evening. He talks, with much regret in his eyes, about the ‘Old Greece’. The one he grew up in a little village. He talks about how the pride of the people has gone, how they have turned to socialism. He talks about the failures of the government. He talks about how much his people, miss the Freedom they once enjoyed. He was quite frank about their current issues. How the people have come to depend on Government subsidies, government hand outs, and how joining the EU has been terrible for his country. He hopes, someday, the Greek people will decide to go back to their own ways, own customs, their old way of life. Which only seemed ‘bad’ compared to the bill of goods they were ‘sold’ with the promises of the EU.
So when I read the Gold Report at USA Gold this evening, I thought of my new friend. I thought of his 7 yr old daughter who hugged my neck last time I was in there. I thought, America is on the same path as Greece. We have turned our values and fortunes over to the International bankers, of whatever stripe they represent. Perhaps when I get the time, my friend will teach me how to beat the system.
And like us, he says believe nothing you read or hear in the Press from Greece. Seems their Media is as bought and paid for as our own.
