Have read others that say partial is fine, even good…but none talk of 35 K and that is the crucial area, because 4 K would suggest a 10 to 15 year life, asumeing near daily charges. Such a short life cycle on a cars ‘engine’ would be a 2 nd hand killer, especially as that is the max, min could be way less, from an abused battery….5 years or less.
Also u should not store/not use the battery if 100 % charged, @ 40/50 % is best and at cool temp. So optimum battery maintenance is v complex.
In short I was wrong about the discharge/charge cycle …it was for Ni/Cad batteries, Lith Ion are v different, but I would say way too complicated for most to maximise/fit into life styles, they will be abused when new, thus shortening life cycles heavily.
That factory and it ‘s tech has to support crazy values. Tesla is worth more than Ford, yet sold 76 K cars last year, early sales had guaranteed buy back values, Ford sold 6.7 million cars, no buy back guarantee….Tesla’s model X costs £ 100 K in the UK, yet has a range of at best sub 200 miles driven carefully, forget the posted 300 plus miles and way less hard driven in cold conditions….what will it’s 2nd hand value be in 3 yrs, with no guaranteed buy back ….
Musk is smart, v smart, he has played the naive fools of the snowflake generation and todays politicians like a violin…..but maths don’t change and has there been a single ‘Green’ idea that translated into real profits anywhere, rather than a total financial disaster, that was stuck to tax payers.
