I don’t remember what western person or group Putin was talking to, but His thoughts or logic was that the regime change in Iraq had destabilized the whole area and caused Isis. And doing a regime change in Syria would do the same thing. With Assad he reasoned at least there was still a working or functioning gov’t there. Or something like hat.

Assad is neither Shiite or Shia, he is Baathist of Alawite extraction. His clan is a small minority, that rule with a rod of iron.

Assad’s father started the hard ball reign and Assad carried it forward. When Assad pulled up close to Iran, Hezbollah and Russia they turned on Christians (didn’t need them anymore). The Islamic religion is what it is and when in control kill all those committing blasphemy.
not to say that all Islamics have a negative effect on Christians especially when they are in large groups.

I can only surmise that he’s lost the battle with the deep state and when he had that speech saying we would be out of Syria “very soon”. The deep state snapped and are now attacking him on all fronts.
The question is why he’s given the Russians a big heads up might just be to minimize casualties. Maybe just a show of force – again. That’s probably the best case scenario.
Maybe it’s something way bigger than that, it seems Israel has every intention of going back into Syria for an attack.

I don’t think we can, it’s going to take a big player to either back their currency or knock the USD out of dominance. Even just USD weakness isn’t going to get us where we want to go.
