Although the shares aren’t doing anything significant, I have a tendency to think we get at least a little rally in the metals pretty soon – I’d bet mostly on silver.

USD has been on a tear, maybe ready for a pause?

I don’t think it’s envisioned as an every day thing. But you are right, sleep is important and we often don’t get enough of it.

It’s when they drove up interest rates to kill the inflation that mortgage rates rose and killed the housing market. Earlier in the cycle RE did well. You may have local factors which held you back.

Make sure your number or real phone number isn’t on there. I’m guessing due to my patriot status I’ve been getting crank calls including threats. Im not worried about it but it’s annoying. We’re coming to get you. Bring it on!!

I don’t think that is a good idea. We already have too many things interfering with sleep. Dreaming it a way to sort out memories and found with things like Alzheimer’s we need more sleep and longer fasting between sleeping hours. In short I fear it could interfere with memory. That’s what makes it kinda funny about wishing you can remember your dreams. It’s what dreams are all about i.e. Days events, what we read or watched on tv. It just comes out in dreams in strange ways as its sorting it out.

Hi, I’m in Amityville, south shore L.I., born here in 1944. I think you are in Tarrytown if I remember right.

@ipsofacto,

Re real estate and high inflation?? I remember around here, houses were $40,000 in 1972 and by 1982 they were STILL $40,000. Homes were selling for LESS that the cost of building them on your lot.

The reason. 6% in 1972 to 18% Mtg in 1982. Heating oil was so high people were moving away to sun belt states. Kerosene heaters and wood burning stoves all over. NYC and LI lost population. Trump had a $300 million negative net worth. The banks had to feed him more money to avoid he goes bankrupt.

Newsday had a big multi day story Long Island at the cross roads, about how bad everything was. That was a signal. When everybody agrees how bad everything is, its gets better.

Today, 2018, when everyone agrees how great everything is, its likely going to start getting bad.

This is cool. I love it when I can remember my dreams.

I guess if inflation gets going (a high probability IMO) then housing will probably do OK. All the inputs to a house lumber, fixtures, land etc will be going up in price as well. In the 77-80 inflation time housing did very well. Only trouble is that RE is easy to tax and that could be a problem.

During the 77-80 inflation period I remember that forest products-timber-lumber companies were hot. They were looked upon as an inflation hedge. I don’t know if that’ll be the case this time around.

Why house keeping can be risky sometimes. I think I got it all as it was by part of the glass that was still intact and probably rolled out I’m guessing. It was during summer and hot then. I remember the season because we were getting a over load of patients esp young patients because of firecrackers and burns and the forth of July. The area was cleaned. This was a risk at the time including confused patients. This patient wasn’t assessed as we were getting bombarded that day and going into the halls. I do wish I still had one of my own though because their not battery dependent.

Goldie – the problem with spilled Mercury

Posted by Alex Valdor @ 13:30 on April 26, 2018

is that it shatters into many little liquid balls when it falls – very hard to get them all – particularly from crevices and cracks , and then some can be vaporized over time , which is the real hazard.

Young in my career no one told me that either. Back in think it was 73 one of my young patients in the hospital a Mexican child about 10 spoke no English was afraid of everything. Even though I could communicate in some Spanish I was just taking his temperature no injections when I put the then glass thermometer with mercury in his mouth he bit it into and spit it out. I was all over in a panic and the floor looking for the ball of mercury I found on the floor with relief.

@ipso @Richy re Real Estate

Posted by Mr.Copper @ 12:34 on April 26, 2018

Just yesterday talking to. A friend owns three industrial buildings. One for trucking business, two he rents out. One tenant is hounding him to sell it to the tenant.

According to the $100 per square foot size, he says its worth about $750k. The tenant offered him $one million dollars plus $200k under the table.

Now what does that tell you?? People are emptying bank accounts and dumping unreported hidden cash into into real estate as if it was Gold bullion or diamonds, traditional inflation hedges.

Another thing I heard, older people with money are buying homes cash for their kids and grand kids. (Posters any of you?) The last time I saw a situation like this was Silver in the mid to late 1970s.

Millions of small business owners plus others, were converting their “play money” into Silver and Gold. Fed Head Volker raised rates to 21% on the prime lending rate and crashed that silver like a penny stock.

All that excess money got evaporated during the following year or two at the most. Like the Feds big sponge. They sopped up a big bunch of money supply, so they can print some more.

It seems to be their MO. Unwittingly or not, it happens often. With every various market crash. I’ll betcha Bit Coin evaporated some. The summer 2008 too, the ‘87 crash too. And their classic one was 1929.

TPTB have to get more money into the hands of the “beginners” that have balls and lots of confidence. The 18 to 25 year olds out of high school. I was one of them. I bought a big old wooden cabin boat.

Older smarter people would NEVER ever buy a big wooden boat these days. It’s hard to sell a lot of things without dummy’s with money. 🙂

When I was a kid out of high school, the minimum wage was very generous. $1.40/hr, wheather you flipped burgers or were a line man for the electric company.

My friend started at $1.40 as a line man, I got $2.40/hr in a defense plant to start. With over time I was swimming in money. One year after starting I bought a new ‘63 Pontiac LeMans sp coupe, black on black, big engine etc.

All the kids I knew were buying new cars with 10% down and three year loans. Five of us from the same high school bought new 1963 LeMans’.

All those GTOs 442s, Z28s Corvetts etc were purchased by kids. They worked in Dellies Chinese Restaurants machine shops etc. Some bought and sold things on the side. In the Buy Lines Press.

When TPTB allowed the min wage to erode, and started off shoring businesses it was the beginning of the end of prosperity here. And now they are scrambling to bring it back. Do they have memory problems?

Its simple what they have to do, but aren’t doing it.

Recession coming, gotta go.

OroReef – thanks for a great laugh !

Metallic vapors are VERY dangerous , and may be one of the principal causes of the medical issues that first responders ( fire , police , etc. ) are facing .

Early in my career , a neighbor had brought home some instrument mercury . His small daughter drank some of it . We were horrified , imagining horrendous health and mental problems would follow . Their pediatrician laughed it off , saying in would just pass through her gastro-intestinal system very rapidly , and that the real danger was in the vapor phase , inhaled and passing through the lungs into the bloodstream . Nanoparticles can pass across the barrier into the brain and create huge problems to mental processes .

Chromium used in replating bumpers etc. is so dangerous that the price of doing so in restorations is becoming extremely expensive .

Ororeef Good one lol Besides who would be better prepared to survive if a system broke down? The Hillbillies or the gov dependent snow flakes?

Portugeezer, Keyane is a entertainer who went to see Trump instead of listen to the lefts divisive propaganda. Theres another black young lady also speaking out who’s quite articulate and bright. Then we all know of Diamond and Silk who FB tried to kick off to stop free speech.
Now we have a Chinese legislature named Low trying to ban the Bible. China doesn’t like our constitution esp the first amendment and has even brought people here trying to get our gov to stop refugees from there speaking on human rights violations but they said sorry free speech. The refugees told me that themselves.
In Lows case a double whammy in he his part of the LGBT and probably hates the Bible who says he’s wrong so wants to eliminate it. Didn’t have the guts to throw the Torah or Koran in the mix which would be next if he got away with it.

Good ole reliable Dennis…we love him…can’t do without him…that’s how i got rich: fading every trade of his…

Just over an hour into today’s trade, the Nasdaq jumped to 7110, or up 1.52% on the day, and beyond Gartman’s 1.50% stop loss limit, thus stopping Gartman out.

I agree with you Goldilocks on too much military spending

Posted by eeos @ 11:41 on April 26, 2018

Too much money being made in the military complex right now. I think they’re serving the needs of big oil interest and making sure the supply is never disrupted. I think that gasoline and petroleum products are the lifeblood of our country’s economy. They need to keep the price artificially suppressed because oil is the key component to make semi questionable economies continue to function.

re: housing being strong. Yeah that’s a puzzler. It’s not the millenials so it’s got to be older folks. Rents are high … maybe a lot of these are being bought as rentals or specs. Housing market very strong where I live.

Richard 640

Posted by eeos @ 11:35 on April 26, 2018

Richard we shouldn’t overlook that the population of the world in 1989 was something like 5 billion and now it’s 7.5. We have a lot more people walking around on the planet. So we’re always going to need an expansion in housing, even if they’re not coming into the United States somehow they are. I have a hard time believing  it’s all legal immigrants  coming to the u.s. I think there’s a lot of illegals that are inflating the rental market and new house market too. All these bodies have a need for shelter.
