The special counsel has threatened that he will subpoena Trump, and one of the president’s lawyers has said he would defy a subpoena. This would set off a legal and constitutional controversy that could go on for a considerable period, eventually reach the Supreme Court, and still not resolve any of the questions about Russia collusion or obstruction of justice. It’s a dream scenario for the resistance…

It’s true that a prosecutor, as the saying goes, can “get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich,” but this case is different. If Mueller has substantial evidence against the president he will proceed with an indictment in any event, and there is nothing the president might tell him in an interview that will change that. But if, as many suspect, Mueller has nothing that has not already been made public, indicting a sitting president on that basis would be a huge and career-ending embarrassment for him and his team.
From the president’s perspective, a “fish-or-cut bait” challenge to Mueller would have one major benefit. It would bring pressure on Mueller, after more than a year of investigation, to make a choice: either to seek an indictment or issue a report that clears the president of criminally culpable activity.

That’s good for short term but long term hope they can figure something out. People should NOT EDIT have to leave the Island and their jobs less no hope of either.
In Sylmar many people who just moved to the area took flight right after freaked out. The rest of us youngins toughed it out set up camps. Being in one it gets old after awhile. Then they’ll lose more people. Have to stay positive attitude. Oh great now it’s raining but then God brought us water. Least you live on a Island. In Sylmar people were coming up from inner city to loot and they had to block the roads, if u didn’t live there you didn’t get in. Someone tried to take off with my surfboard but someone recognized it and took it from him.
They might have to think about setting up a camp or allow people to do so maybe helping with our houses and portable shower areas. You can just get a bag attach a hose and let the sun do the rest lol.
Think they should have storage facility’s too for people things.
Bad thing on a Island there’s limited housing, storage alternatives.

I hope no one gets trapped and knows alternative ways out even if they have to walk since slow moving.
The bigger volcanos here are more dangerous as you know. They do blow out like a bomb plus flooding or bog what ever they call it like cement moving fast like 50 mpr from some melted snow capped volcanoes they have to stay on it with a fast evacuation plans.

Red Cross opened shelters at Pahoa Village and further up the road at Kea’au.  Salvation Army is feeding the people in the shelters, and they tell us they are providing about 300 meals, three times a day, for the shelters.  Of the 1800 or so residents evacuated, maybe 350 are in the Pahoa shelter, with another couple dozen at Kea’au.  There’s lots of community support, with donations of all kinds of basics, food, clothing, diapers coming in to the Red Cross resource manager at Pahoa.   This morning’s news says about 500 people in shelters now, and the State is making plans to open more shelters.

Lots of refugees have gone to stay with other family elsewhere on the island.  Some have gone off-island or back to the mainland if they have the resources or family elsewhere.  So far it is just the Leilani Estates area that is evacuated.  There is concern that the roads to lower Puna and the whole south shore area may need to be evacuated if all the roads are cut off and they are landlocked.  The governor has said that such an evacuation would be beyond the State’s capacity to take care of that many people

I’m glad your out of Peles path. I do hope they set up some sort of temp housing for the displaced. After the Sylmar quake in 70 s they wernt much help in the immediate like food water we had to go get elsewhere but they did give out vougers to home owners who’s homes were destroyed. They got a sort of HUD vouchers paying their rent for a year. Better than nothing.
Seems they should be giving out masks and work to have a go to shelter children and all who would be adversely affected by the sulfur like infants,small children, who can’t tell you their having a problem have to observe it, asthma, COPD, heart issues, elderly. I suppose air filter would do little for that.

I am so sick of the “exploding volcanos” meme… everywhere.  My elder sis in the midwest text me she’s worried for me… she remembers Mt. St. Helens.  I had to explain the difference to her all over.  The only thing about to explode here is my head!

Today the volcano opened a 19th fissure, moving generally east along the flank, downslope.  My SO2 masks will be delivered in today’s mail.  This thing is venting SO2 like a fleet of jet engines.  The last fissure is roaring like a 747 at takeoff thrust.  And it’s not stopping.
