After 1971 (deflation) the higher rates sucked money OUT of money supply until around ’81 at 21% prime. We almost had a hyper inflation in the ’70s, total loss of confidence in the Dollar after ’71 but the higher rates sucking up deposit dollars were a head wind. Mexico had 35% rates. USD index hit around 160.
