Lava is molten magma from the earth’s mantle. It is a rich mix of almost everything. On the older, ancient islands here it decomposes into a rich, red, clay type of soil much like ‘Georgia Clay’.
Other types of rocks on the continent are classed as ‘metamorphic’ rocks… those which have undergone geologic change due to extreme pressure, or solvent actions of water, or sedimentary… or… well there are lots of different types of rocks. Most have undergone some kind of metamorphosis in their composition due to external conditions.
Lava is pure mantle ooze… the primordial ‘soup’ that the planet is made of.
