Loading ...I argued about free trade and experienced these costs by sending some CDs to Canada. I couldn’t believe all the paperwork. I just put no value and a note inside to save them on their side from or cost my thinking up Here’s your CDs you forgot cuz I knew they were gonna open it. It cost over 20 extra on my side even putting no value.
Thing is if it’s free then what of places like China or elsewhere making cheaper things and hurting local businesses. There has to be some common sense economics here. Perhaps free trade would make things worse?
personally am against trade war but for none of the reasons publicly stated. There are few industries that should be protected and that is arms-manufacturer and agriculture. Why? Because we need to defend ourselves and we need to be able to eat. The reason the Irish hated the English was that they imposed huge tariffs on agriculture to protect English farmers and when there was the potato famine, the tariffs resulted in the Irish staving to death. However, nobody should starve to death if there is a crop failure.
