June 28 (Reuters) – The 38-year-old man suspected of killing five people at the offices of a Maryland newspaper group on Thursday had a long-running feud with the Capital Gazette, attacking the Annapolis-based family of publications in the courts and on social media.

Law enforcement sources told the Capital Gazette that police had identified the suspect as Jarrod Warren Ramos, a resident of Laurel, Maryland, who sued the newspaper and one of its journalists in 2012, alleging defamation.

Almost a year earlier, Thomas Hartley, a former columnist for The Capital, one of the group’s papers, wrote a column describing the suspect’s interactions with an unnamed woman Ramos contacted over Facebook, court documents showed. Hartley said Ramos sent her numerous emails in which he called her vulgar names and told her to kill herself.

The lawsuit named Hartley, its then editor-publisher Thomas Marquardt, and Capital-Gazette Communications, then the parent company of the paper.

Ramos had pled guilty to criminal harassment five days before Hartley published his column, records showed. He claimed in court documents that his perspective was not fairly represented. His lawsuit was dismissed in 2013, and an appellate court upheld the dismissal in 2015.

As the case made its way through the courts, a Twitter user calling himself Jarrod W. Ramos posted numerous tweets critical of the Capital Gazette, Hartley and the Maryland judges.

“Yes, Eric Thomas Hartley, you moved to … oh just go ahead and kill yourself already before I do (legally in court),” the user tweeted in 2014.

The account went silent from January 2016 until Thursday, just before the shooting at the Capital Gazette.

A 2015 court document quoted Ramos’ lawyer as saying that Ramos had worked for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for six years. (Reporting by Diana Kruzman Editing by Frank McGurty, Toni Reinhold)

Mick Kalber would describe this scene as “Prehistoric.  You expect to see a dinosaur walk thru somewhere.”

Commish might know Mick Kalber.  Back in the early 1980’s Mick was an independent videographer in Kona, with his own professional camera and tape editor.  I worked at the NBC affiliate in Honolulu, and we would sometimes hire Mick as a contract ‘stringer’ to shoot news video for us on the Big Island.  When the volcano erupted in 1983, Mick began taking helicopter flights with his camera and documenting the volcano flows.  It became a lifelong passion and business for him.  “Tropical Visions” now sells the majority of volcano videos on the market to the visitor industry.  Mick is still taking almost daily flights with Paradise Helicopters to video the lava flows, and is posting raw lava videos on his website.  You can buy the older videos there, but he has a bunch of current and free stuff to watch here:

Ps I kinda laughed at the three times of day shower thing. Yes I think he’s a good doctor with that but made me wonder if he had had patients who weren’t even compliant with a everyday shower especially with elder patients who may have a problem with that or people who work outside exposing themselves to debris and sweat and germs might need more. So wondering if he says that so some less compliant with do at least one shower so tells all his patients that. Just wondering lol. Normally while draining its as needed plus least couple tiles a day.

Right, the danger of opening them is infection that could become systemic and kill you. After the wound could be considered a dirty wound so why they want it open not just to drain but to clean it out. That’s why if your going home and a lay person so to speak they just want to leave it that way. Plan water is not the best but for a person going home instead of a treatment regime they might not follow it’s easier to tell them to jump in the shower.
Cancer has many forms some more aggressive plus there are other things that can appear a whole host of things like the more common systemic lupus.
So cancers like basal cell common in that area are like ice bergs. You minght have a small lesion on your nose for instance but below it could be growing even bigger. The must with cancer or pre cancer is getting all of it. Sometimes aside for X-rays they can be pappated but still a guess like your friend that had all those branches.
A nurse friend getting on me yesterday saying I’m a good nurse but more patient with others than myself better check it out as I’ve put in on ignore for couple of years. She knows a patient who trusted the doctor with his saying they got all of it but he didn’t. It was still there and now it’s in his brain and liver.
I’d say have the doctor ID what it is if it requires histology and try to get rid of it then move to the other. Something’s could have similar textbook appearances but not even be cancer or vise Versa. If your friend had melanoma for instance it could of spread quick and wouldn’t know it till it was too late. Some forms don’t have typical dark multicolored irregular patterns. I had two physicals to see if the doctor would even notice it and didn’t. It’s more assembly like corporate that’s killing people now. Have to get to work not editing.

Goldie – thanks for noting that

I remember now – the Lysol antiseptic ‘soap’ was a foam that I was to apply to the wound for about a half minute or so before rinsing in the shower , and I was on antibiotics both before and after the procedure . The procedure was moved ahead several days , because once I began the antibiotics , the cyst ‘exploded’ into an eruption of pus as the war began between the good guys ( the antibiotics ) and the underlying bad guys . The surgeon was excellent , and did the procedure in his office .

Cancer is , as you point out , an entirely different matter .

On that topic , I had an in-law relative about 50 years ago who claimed that he had a type of skin cancer on his face that he treated with an American Indian compound . He said the whole thing could be pulled out of his cheek like a miniature octopus after a number of days of treatment – and never came back . I was very doubtful at the time , but after reading the link that GoldCountry posted , I am coming around in my thinking .

I worked over 16 hrs yesterday take a break to get a bite to eat and see your pictures lol. That looked like typical common treatment but not the same as cancer as besides infection could be a problem is limited to one area. It’s also a more fatty area than over bone and cartilage of a functional area that can be less vascular where also scaring is not much of a issue.
They pack the wound because it’s a wet wound that needs draining and don’t want it to close up before it drains which can lead to infection. That common practice to people who go home is to shower least once a day to rince out debris. They also usually give you antibiotics. It turned out okay so won’t go any further about it. Wound healing with or without cancer can be dependent on many factors of health and nutrition. Best they got that one out and looks like the doctor did a good job.

LOL Next thing you know she’ll be encouraging her supporters to gather bottles, gasoline and old rags …

Anyway, it’s a pretty poor strategy for success in the coming mid-term election. The effort got a boost over the weekend from Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-Cal) who called for Trump administration employees to be thrown out of department stores and other retail establishments as well as restaurants. Why stop there? Why not enslave Trump employees and supporters? Force them to work without pay in the Chick-Fil-A regional distribution warehouses? One wonders what House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi thinks of Ms. Waters’ proposal. Other Democratic party leaders zipped their pie-holes about it.

BTW – I hope things are headed to a smoother time for your venture there in Portugal . If my G&S tribulations ever turn positive , I hope to be a paying guest some day . Portugal is the one part of Europe that I have yet to visit . I have lived and worked in Switzerland , France and Belgium for almost 10% of my life , beginning in my early 20’s .
