Living on an island with a million people that is heavily dependent on ‘just in time’ delivery of goods by ship, one learns to be prepared well in advance. Local authorities say have 14 days supplies & water available to shelter in place. This figure is based on the fact that the harbors will be closed before the storm, and large container ships will exit… even if not unloaded yet… and ride out at sea. If everything goes well with no harbor damage, it could take up to 14 days to get the ships back into harbor, unloaded, and goods restocked to retail outlets.
So the news stories tonight indicate that ALL the big warehouse outlets in Honolulu are sold out of bottled water, Toilet Paper, Flashlights, batteries, and generators. No new stock will be arriving for at least 14 days…. or longer.
Me? Of course I’m prepared. I’ve been thru this a few times..
