Hi BG, options are something else altogether , I do not venture into option , too complex and working in favor of the issuer , and like you said decaying in value with time , I think I would rather take that money to Los Vegas  🙂 , but JNUG sounds like a good play.

I am from down under , and gold miners here are in the toilet at the moment, happens every November/December sellers gathering their left over money for X-mas shopping, 🙂 it’s just bloody ridiculous, especially that gold in Australian dollars at it’s near highs, therefore miner’s profits up. Investors financial knowledge, literacy must be nil , I am being polite. 🙂

I am getting international trading account and will get some JNUG as soon as I can, at least a few thousand and just hold onto it.

We walked over to it today . The neighbors over the back wall are birdlovers and provide ears of dry corn for the doves , who then come to the window sill at the house to relieve themselves . It was almost funny – we were there a few days ago , and the doves were on an adjoining roof edge , looking at us in the window almost saying ‘Hurry up and leave – we’ve gotta go , BADLY !

The other day my oldest daughters in laws went to the post office in another state. They thought it would be open due to Christmas so close. He’s a retired Chaplin.
When he got back in the car he saw a older women trying to drop off packages too. He rolled down the window told her it was closed. What did she say? It was Trumps fault!

If you have conviction that pm stocks have bottomed you could just short JDST. These 3x’s ETF’s are like options and lose value over time. Unless you really hit the trend perfectly it’s a tough way to make money. If the pm shares go sideways for awhile you’re guaranteed to lose money. Honestly, I think you could almost take out shorts on every 3x’s ETF’s whether they are short or long and make a profit.

I don’t think JNUG will ever see $500 again.

Hi Alex, thanks for the info reinforcing my original thought, I just wanted to be 100% sure that it was correct. I do know that it is a very volatile  ETF , but if the gold has bottomed out (hopefully) then I think there is a huge potential for juniors and therefore JUNG , currently at about $6-7 , considering where it was  in 2014, $500-600.

JNUG is an exchange traded fund (ETF) , and as you indicate , aims to be 3X leveraged to junior gold miners , so is quite volatile . The junior gold miners are volatile to begin with , so I assume the ETF deals in options or futures to achieve their stated goal . Every time I add to my position Schwab always indicates that leveraged ETF’s are not for all investors , and generally not to be held overnight , but I do . The gain on Friday was over 8% .

You are correct that you cannot lose more than a portion of your investment in JNUG .

The advantage to ETF’s is that they are traded all day long , not like Mutual Funds which trade only after markets close , based on the Net Asset Value at the end of the day . You have to guess at the price of a Mutual Fund during the day , enter a bid in dollar terms of how much you wish to spend , then learn later after the NAV is determined , how many shares your $$$ bought . With an ETF , you specify either a market order , or a limit order , and the number of shares you wish to bid on .

If JNUG goes back to the price of about five years ago the potential gain is over 10 000 % ! I do not see how it can lose more than 50% of the current price , unless the Juniors go belly up en masse .
