there’s a red moon rising. there’s an eclipse of the moon tonight, starting about now, the moon will take on a dull reddish color as it passes into the shadow cast by the earth. totality begins at 11:44 p. m. and lasts a little over an hour. during this time, the only sunlight hitting the moon will have been refracted around the earth by our atmosphere, losing most of the blue end of the spectrum in the process. the light reflected back to us will appear red like an old penny.
LOOK UP, it’s already starting, there’s a rainbow ring around the moon, blue to the outside, red to the inside. it isn’t raining.
