Pepe is one lucky bird to have you for a daddy.  I’ve enjoyed your posts about him, thank you.

The larger parrots can live 50 years.  This conure species lives 20-30 years in the wild.  The domestic pets average about 10 years, sadly due to owner neglect.  I won’t let that happen.  He doesn’t know he’s a bird.  He only knows being raised by humans.  They have ‘flock instincts’ and need to know they are part of their ‘human flock’ at home.  He needs to be taken out of the cage daily and cuddled and petted and have his head scratched.  He’s human bonded to me and I am the love of his life, so I cannot ignore him for a long time.  Birds get neurotic if you ignore a human bonded bird.  Too many owners just want a pretty decoration in a cage and they figure food and water is enough, and they ignore the bird.  These birds get lonely, pull their feathers out, and adopt self-destructive behaviors.

While he is curious and excited by other humans around, and will tolerate almost anyone scratching his beak and head while he is in the cage, it is a different story when he is out and perched on me.  I belong to him then, and if anyone else approaches and tries to take him he gets defensive and will bite the stranger.

I have not clipped his wings.  Flight feathers are the blue tips at the end of his wings.  He is just too pretty to clip.  He is a reluctant flyer, and will look for a way to climb and walk where he wants to go.  He crouches sometimes like he is ready to fly, but never quite launches voluntarily.  The exception is if he is startled.  He will jump into the air, take a quick circle around the room, and come back to land on me.  Or if he is on his cage and I turn away to walk out of the room he will not let me get out of his sight and he launches into the air to follow and land on me.  I try to get him some flying exercise frequently so he doesn’t get fat & lazy!  🙂

I’m so sorry to hear what you’re enduring, I feel for you. I know what its like. When my honey found out she was in trouble, we assumed we had six months. But surprisingly she went five years.

Its probably not practical for your distant location, but if it is, my wife’s surgeon, Doctor James D. Sullivan from North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, L.I. N.Y. does the whipple operation. He’s well known and the best of the best around here.

Maybe your Dr. can at least consult with him on the phone? Google him.

Nice looking bird. My neighbor had a green parrot that was a little bigger than yours. It was really old and could talk and make various noises. I don’t think he liked me. He made a sound like a hissing growl when I walked by. I think he said “feed me” for a corn chip.

How long do parrots live. This one was alive for ten years I know of and he was an adult the first time I saw him.

Moggy @ 7:58 – Bird Band

Posted by Maya @ 14:29 on April 28, 2019

The band is a ‘closed band’ (IE: no seam) that is slipped on the tiny foot at two weeks after hatching when the bird is taken from the nest and human-raised.  The foot shortly grows larger so the band cannot come off.  This is the breeder’s assn. mark, with a date and serial number of the bird.  Pepe is a 2014 hatch.  The closed-band is a USDA requirement to identify exotic birds as a domestic hatchling, and not an illegal smuggled import.  It is Pepe’s passport.  In order to ship or transport the bird it must be inspected by USDA.  I had to have him inspected and paperwork stamped even before shipping him interisland on air cargo.

Green Cheek Conures such as Pepe are the smallest variety of parrot and are native to the rainforests of Brazil and Argentina in South America.

Don’t have much time but that link went to multi links.
I had some questions about how the writer is backing up the claims. For instance with all the money Trump is bringing back home for instance trade and having rich country’s pay for our military protection instead of us having to pay for them with was a total ripoff. The nafta was changed and Ttp or Tpp rip off was squashed. Then the Paris Acvord rip off was stopped. Where is the increased outlays or spending?

Pepe is gorgeous!  I obviously missed your post of his pics previously so thank you for posting them again.  I see he is banded, did you do that?

I posted pix of Pepe a couple years back when he flew in and adopted me in Honolulu.  He was a wild ‘teenager’ at the time and I endured a lot of bites to train him and tame him down.  He has matured nicely and loves all the attention he can get now.  He talks in a gravelly voice and says ‘Good Morning’, ‘What’s your name?”, “What’s Up?”  “Go Sleep”, and the ever-present “Pepe want Chip!” when he wants to be fed.  He’s a pushover for a corn chip treat.

And my low-class friend taught him to make fart sounds, too.  🙂

This is a normal color “Green Cheek Conure”.  Hawaiian breeders have crossed this with a yellow-headed “Sun Conure” and have gotten the yellow color to propagate down the breast stripes so they are yellow and red-brown, which makes the breast look like a pineapple so they call it a “Pineapple Conure”.  It is a rare cross-breed and they sell for over a thousand dollars here.  The cross-bred color failures that turn out blotchy get sold at Petco for $700.
