Portugeezer – if I had any guts I’d be following your logic and be looking for some vehicle to short the broad market in some sort of crash scenario. Problem I have is that the PPT keeps bringing the stock market back after every one day selloff and there are rarely see any extended period of a downtrend.

commodity trading has always been like that  ,its all manipulated because of the leverage ,its a scammers paradise .The only way to beat them is buy 1 futures contract then buy 1  In-the money Put of the Same expiration month  ..  Invariably they will spread a rumor about some crop problem to wipe out the specs.  Every crop year they will lose the crop at least once…

Chicago is the worst place to trade COMMODITY’S ..MORE CROOKS THAN NY..Even if you place a stop below the lowest price recorded ,they will reach down and take you out and then run it up …I found the only way to beat them is to buy insurence with an in the money PUT of the same expiration month..Then they can run the stops ,run it up and down all day and your in the money put will keep you in the game until YOU  want out   …Iv done it and made some money ,but I figured better to deal with the crooks I know in NY ,than the ones I dont know in Chicago.

I know you are a good farm commodity trader, but DO be careful for the abrupt and drastic manipulation that happens in this market in the fall when producers like ADM need to buy corn.  They will step on the rising market hard to pick up their needed corn on the cheap.

Conditions remind me of the last century (90s?) when we had a midwest drought and the corn was all stunted.  I visited the midwest and saw the fields myself.  Barely knee high corn in AUGUST that year…. what wasn’t brown and being plowed under.

I figured it was like shooting fish in a barrel as I was trading commodities at the time.  Levered into corn, and as it rose I had a $50k paper profit, with good trailing stops on Friday.

Over the weekend some massive outfit (ADM?) stepped HARD on the market.  Monday morning I found the market opened far BELOW my stops, and I went from a $50k profit to a $50k margin call!  That was the end of my commodity trading, the end of my IRA (cashed out to pay margin call) and a massive credit card debt that eventually led to a bankruptcy.

Later I figured stocks were a better investment, but no… the manipulation was there, also.  This is why I don’t touch paper at all, any more.
