They really need to come up with a alternative to salt. It can run off to streams and lakes and cause corrosion to bridges. Being near the ocean even if you don’t salt the roads the ocean causes corrosion. Salt being heavier than air can’t really rise so why steam from salt water can be used but who knows. I tried putting a bit of salt, more than normal in a pot collected the steam and it still was a bit salty.

Salting the roads in winter is the worse thing for cars imo.

Good for you living by the ocean. Hopefully waxing the car a lot and under it can help. Be sure you get two years engine coverage at least on it though.
My son bought a used truck with front back seat 4wd to take his son places too and after about 4 months the engine blew. Luckily they had to fix it.
My daughter bought a used car and was with her and made them write a bumper to bumper for 6 weeks and engine related for longer. In only 2 weeks after 50 miles the check engine light went on and needed work.

Seem that the policeman was the one who caused the accident pulling a kid out of a car that seemed reckless over smoking pot with no violence no danger. Then did nothing to stop the car.

some years ago my son was diving my car ..He parked it outside a pizza place at the lower end of the parking lot.A police car drove in and spotted a teen driver smoking a joint ,went over to his truck and dragged him out letting the truck roll down the hill and into my parked car ….no driver ..He had Liberty Mutual Insurance,they told me they would not pay as they were investigating ..I was scheduled to go on vacation in a week and I needed the car ,it wasent badly damaged ,about 300 to front fender and what appeared to be wheel damage.Liberty refused to pay,I called my agent ,I said you insure me and I need a car for vacation ,they said rent one, your covered under your policy so I did….meantine I took the car to a dealer to fix the fender and said I wanted a wheel alignment because my son said it was pushed out at a angel.
Liberty told the dealer they wernent going to pay for a wheel alignment.,,and the dealer said he wouldent do it ! So I went back to the dealer and said give me the Fucking keys ,Im taking the car somewhere else .and I did….in the end My insurance company fixed my car and did a wheel alignment .I was happy .Then the Boy told the Liberty Mutual insurance he would pay himself so as to avoid a rate increase.what then happened was my insurance company collected from him the $300 or so damage ,also the Rental for three weeks which came to $850.00 …ALL that because Liberty wouldent pay for a $15.00 wheel alignment at that time….in the beginning… Dont deal with others insurance ,deal with your own ,they will collect from them if your not at fault ! Let them work for you !

Years back some jerk hit my car and refused to give me a name and insurance, I memorized and took down his license plate number and tracked him down.
I then let my insurance deal with it and they did about the same to him. If he didn’t give his insurance we were going to charge him. He decided to give his insurance info. It wasn’t totaled though but needed work to fix a bumper and part of the car.

Here’s a little unknown trick I accidently learned years ago. Somebody went over the double solid line on a bend in the road and hit the back left side of my son’s 1979 Chevy Silverado pick up truck. The other guy was liable, at fault, and the insurance company totaled the truck and was offering $800. Meanwhile the truck was worth $4500 at that time. Already had some collector value. Even more so today.
My son had no luck with trying to get more out of them. Then I got on the phone with them and said, “Listen, the front and rear axels alone are worth $800 each. And the truck is worth $4500. I also got nowhere with the lady on the phone. Very stubborn and obnoxious, until I said one sentence. Remember this….
“Well, we are going to have to sue your insured directly”. At that point, her whole attitude changed, and we were able to get the proper funds to fix the truck. 🙂 I learned by accident. The key words. Most people just take what is offered. Don’t forget, everybody.

Interesting stories thanks. I like the Astro Vans, too bad they stopped making them. They are the second best thing compared to my short bed G-20 cargo van. 110 in wheelbase. Astro 111 in WB. The G-20 will take 4X8 sheets, Astro will not. G-20 have 5.0 ltr V/8 engines, Astro only 4.3 ltr V/6.
Its my second G-20 van, bought new in ’89, $17k loaded, has 209,000 on it, all stop and go. Tranny went at 200k. I finished the interior for camping, warm and quiet. I use hard to find 30 wt Valvoline, all fleet, diesel grade, since new. I don’t care what “they” say.
Been using that Oil since the 1960s. I had the “new” multi viscosity in my 1963 Tempest. Always had lifter click. Race car mechanic told me stop using that multi viscosity crap. Its like giving you a coat and telling you can use it in winter and summer too. I heard in Europe “our leader” use 0W30.
“They” also tell us we need thin oil when we start the engine to get in all the tight places. Bull/crap on that. The thin oil gets even thinner when hot. Not good the rest of the trip. The thick oil gets warm and thinner fast, but not too thin. Stays good rest of day.
In fact we had two Astro vans (for flipping) with slight knock in motor. Changed oil to the 30wt, no more knock. When sold we gave the buyers the top of the oil box and to make sure they use that particular oil.
They recommended in my 1989 manual 5W30 “energy saving oil”. Thinner so crank shaft has less resistance. One more mile per gallon? Screw saving energy, I want to save the motor.

Bought it a couple of years earlier , pulled out the 4 cylinder engine , bought the engine from a wrecked V-8 Mercury , put it all together and painted it with a neighbor .
Wrong color ! Cops hated me – I guess it was the the bull and the matador’s cape .
