Massive protests force Argentinian governor to abolish mining law
Following a week of protests, the governor of Argentina’s central province of Mendoza, Rodolfo Suárez, announced that he will send a bill to the legislature to abolish Law 9209, which allowed for cyanide and sulfuric acid to be used in mining operations and which modified its predecessor Law 7722.
The new law was swiftly approved last week and it sparked massive, daily protests across the province. Some rallies caused transit disruptions on roads that connect Argentina with neighbouring Chile.
Protesters, many of them from left-wing opposition parties and environmental organizations, argued that the new law threatened the province’s waterways and water supply.

With all those new rules and fines it doesn’t look like the EU bureaucrats want to have an auto industry in Europe at all. Pitchforks on the horizon? Is Germany going to seize up like France? Stay tuned.

Former US President Barack Obama is now in severe legal jeopardy, because the Russiagate investigation has turned 180 degrees; and he, instead of the current President, Donald Trump, is in its cross-hairs.

RIP: RICH… Portugeezer
More and more over the last several months I kept thinking about You. And your absence in posting settled deeper within me. You are thought of regularly and are well in my heart and soul.
We jested about the difficulty in singing a Roy Orbitson song, yet you reported back that you did it and it went quite well! That takes a beautiful talent plus courage. I’ll always miss your postings Rich. GODSPEED!
An Andrew Jackson Classic
“Gentlemen! I too have been a close observer of the doings of the Bank of the United States. I have had men watching you for a long time, and am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country.
When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin!
Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I have determined to rout you out, and by the Eternal, (bringing his fist down on the table) I will rout you out.”
Andrew Jackson, From the original minutes of his meeting with the Philadelphia bankers, February 1834, from Andrew Jackson and the Bank of the United States (1928) by Stan V. Henkels

Very sorry to hear that our pal Portugeezer is gone. Rest in peace friend. Tonight I hoist a salute a toast to you. Thanks for being in our lives.
Dedicated to Portugeezer, musician, and a fan of the Doo Wop and the oldies.
Maya–I love the cartoons!! I got this from a ZH reader=
The progressive left have worked hard for the last 50 years to take over the media, courts, academia, and the bureaucracy so they will not allow anyone to challenge their power and authority. The left owns everything except the citizens immediate assets and they are working hard to make sure they eventually confiscate those items, (think Virginia guns). Look at the Democrats actions against the elected president and everyone has to acknowledge that they are laser focused on totalitarian control.

No it didn’t. The Soviet Union collapsed because the Stalinists fought a counter-revolution against socialism. Stalinism is RIGHT-WING. Those millions of people who line the infamous mass graves of Stalin were overwhelmingly socialists and communists.
The Stalinists shut down the global socialist movement. They arrested and executed leading socialists and communists. They executed Trotsky, the architect of the revolution. They subsequently propped themselves up in power and privilege and then restored capitalism at their earliest convenience as their preferred method of raping workers and looting the public till.
Keep in mind that the Soviet Union was overthrown (by whom) without so much as a knife wound. That’s because the Soviet Union was overthrown by the Stalinists themselves and it was those Stalinists who then profited from the restoration of capitalism and they did so at the expense of their Russian people.
Thanks Winedoc
Rich will be sorely missed, as will Wanka and others.
There’s still a few of us left to carry on the battle for them…

Hey All
I would take this opportunity to wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year !!
I still check in to the Tent every day
I sure miss the early morning commentary from “Portugeezer” especially his words of wisdom, his generous offers of hospitality to anyone who might be visiting the Algarve.
I did have some personal correspondence from him, as my parents were wintering in Albufera, in 2017/18, just 30 minutes or so from where Rich lived (in Tavira I believe). Some of you might know that Rich loved playing guitar, singing and performing. Most of you know that he was building a new hotel and all the ups and downs of that venture.
He was so generous to offer to pick up my parents and drive them to his town and put them up at a local hotel where he would be playing an evening set.
By chance it did not happen………..
What did happen is that Rich and my father both were so unlucky to have contracted pancreatic cancer, around the same time. Dad was rushed home from Portugal last April in critical condition, and is lucky to be still battling after the dreaded “Whipple” procedure and 3 months of chemotherapy. Rich was not so lucky.
Rich was in contact several times, about his illness and he always asked about Dad.
I decided today that I would reach out to family by email.
To my delight his grandson Brody answered and I asked if I could post some kind of statement in memory of his grandfather
He sent me this ……..
“Hello Dr, I am Richard’s grandson, Brody, unfortunately Richard did pass away on the 26th of October. The week prior to that me and him had tried to sign into his account, at the time he was solely focusing all his energy on the hotel and getting things sorted out I remember him saying to me “let’s have some fun” and “I want to go out with a bang”, so he clearly very much enjoyed being a part of the community.”
So, thinking of old friends that have passed over the years here at the Oasis ……. I will raise a glass to “Portugeezer”

Hey Ipso
We have indeed been some patient dudes!
Fear still rules the pm sector as it probably should given the beatings you mention.
I’m actually surprised by the strength of pm’s the last week and on good volume. Either the big players have some inside info about what lies ahead, or the shorts have decided to cover in their own version of “tax loss selling”.
Neither would surprise me old buddy. Friday was the last day of tax loss selling if I’m not mistaken before settlement on the 31st. We’ll see what happens Monday but as usual, I’m with you. 🙂

We are some patient dudes! Well we’ve been beaten down for years and now our patience is going to be rewarded. That’s what I think. 2020 is going to be a stellar year so get out your darts! 🙂

did gasx just bottom?
i pulled the trigger on a small position, and will again if it keeps acting like this.
Well Ipso
We can only hope. I’d like to think this is the beginning of a third 20 year cycle. If so, it’s too damn bad we (I) waited so long for the 3rd time to come around when there was so much bank to be made in the last especially 10 years in regular stocks.
OTOH, if this is just the beginning, we’ll be able to throw darts at pm stocks and make serious bank over the next few years, That’s what I’m hoping for. 🙂
