Yeah, looks like hurricane Douglas is taking aim directly at the Big Island here. Landfall predicted for Sunday evening at slightly reduced tropical storm status. Historically, hurricanes ‘bounce’ off the Big Island. A wall of two 14,000ft volcanos disrupts the storm dramatically, while squeezing out the water.
When hurricane Lane stalled between Maui and the Big Island a year or two ago, we got 54 inches of water in 24 hours… so we have this ‘treading water’ thing down pat.
But now they are struggling with how to ‘social distance’ the emergency shelters they will need to open. Never a dull moment… pandemics… hurricanes… Bring it on! I’m prepped.
