My view is too many authors write the most shocking or pessimistic or crazy or unbelievable, or exciting things they can think of, like rag papers in the super market, so people will be attracted and buy read their stuff. For their advertisers or sponsors. Nobody wants to read optimistic things. Similar to movies, The Chain saw Massacre, Of Friday The 13th, or Jaws etc. Attracts people. Love stories? Not so much.
