A recently unearthed 2007 United States Geological Service survey appears to have discovered nearly $1 trillion in mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself.

The previously unknown deposits — including huge veins of iron, copper, cobalt, gold and critical industrial metals like lithium — are so big and include so many minerals that are essential to modern industry that Afghanistan could eventually be transformed into one of the most important mining centers in the world. An internal Pentagon memo, for example, states that Afghanistan could become the “Saudi Arabia of lithium,” a key raw material in the manufacture of batteries for laptops and BlackBerrys.

American officials also recognize that the mineral discoveries will almost certainly have a double-edged impact in that, instead of bringing peace, the newfound mineral wealth could lead the Taliban to battle even more fiercely to regain control of the country.

American officials also fear that resource-hungry China will try to dominate the development of Afghanistan’s mineral wealth which would upset the United States, given its heavy investment in the region. After winning the bid for its Aynak copper mine in Logar Province, China clearly wants more, American officials said.

The regime is playing with nitroglycerine there. How desperate and crazy are they, really? Is something wicked coming their way? I think so, and I think they know it’s so, and I think they have just about run out of tricks for avoiding it. A crack in the edifice of tyrannical coercion materialized a few days ago when SecDef Lloyd Austin declared his intention to vax-up the whole military. General David Berger, Commandant of the US Marine Corps, briskly told the SecDef, in effect, to take a flying fuck at a rolling donut. What do you make of that?

In the past there have been many occasions where there were mysterious lows or highs created that had us scratching our heads….so while I feel Phyz G&S has been “marked” with its low, I don’t necessarily think that means they will take off quite yet. IMO that sets the limits the manipulators can work within, and it may be that this is giving those who are controlling the PM shares a “heads up” to get themselves positioned for the approaching change of direction.

New Gold Inc. (TSX: NGD; NYSE: NGD) shares trading in Toronto fell to a 12-month low on Thursday after the company reported weaker than expected June-quarter financial results and cast doubt on whether it might achieve its full-year production guidance.

After markets closed on Wednesday, New Gold said it expected to achieve the lower end of the 440,000 to 490,000 gold-equivalent ounces (GEO) range and possibly exceed its portfolio-wide all-in sustaining costs range of $1,230 to $1,330 per GEO at the higher end.

New Gold said in its earnings report the cornerstone Rainy River mine in Ontario recorded lower than expected grades from the East Lobe area in July.

A recall vote of California Governor Gavin Newsom is in progress. It started over Newsom’s handing of Covid and most figured it was doomed.

But in April 2021, the secretary of state certified that the effort had enough signatures to trigger a vote.

The vote is on September 14. The vote has two parts:

Part one is a yes-or-no question: Shall the officeholder be recalled? Part two offers a list of successor candidates—46 have qualified in this recall. Each voter chooses one of them, and if the recall is successful, whichever candidate earns a plurality fills out the term.

Larry Elder did not enter the race until July 12, but suddenly he is either leading or in second place depending on what poll one believes.
