Lets think positive. At least the ocean corrals (gather together and confine (a group of people or things) the crap to a central location. The pacific mud room. Maybe some day it will be profitable to harvest it and use it to burn and generate electric. Or melt it down to plastic ingots. And use less oil to make plastic. Recycle it. The middle of the ocean is no mans land like the middle of a desert or middle of Australia. Nobody lives there. Oh and the film with the plastic fragments? They were still visible, didn’t dissolve, its like they are indestructible
Garbage dumps and land fills must be every 50 miles. There are a few on long island. They are natural and needed. Years ago when I was a kid, we didn’t have garbage men. Everybody had an old steel barrel in the back yard and we burned all the garbage. After a while all we had left was metal and glass, and we would dig a hole in the yard and bury it. It all came from the ground and goes back into the ground. Everything comes from the ground. Except asteroids meteors etc. But they also hit the ground.
Everything re garbage dumps is natural practical and needed, but you don’t want to live near one, they stink as you drive by them too. Evidently there is lots of money being made “fighting” “testing” “filming” “reporting” about various pollution. They will never stop, and nothing will change, no matter how many increasing millions of people get angry each day and tell others about it.
Zero results, more angry people, more money for the “leaders” of the war on pollution. People are living older longer than ever, into their 90s and 100s, so whats the problem? Whats the objectives? Banning land fills, banning ships from dumping garbage in the middle of the ocean with no witnesses to report it to enforcement? What would you want and what would make you happy?
Lets not forget the fossil fuel hater religion. Fossil fuels have raised living standards enormously. The only problem is too much of it is wasted on frivolous promiscuous vacation and business travel, because airfares are held down for years artificially too cheap. Causing too much demand. Round trip ticking NY to LA should be $4000. NOT $400 to $600 its a JOKE. Air travel is something that you normally did once every 10 years., if that.
Also fossil fuel wasted on globalization, long distance delivery of mathematically cheap consumer products. Shipping a “screwdriver” or “coffee mugs” across oceans and continents is stupid impractical and wasteful, unless they are profiting from it.
Its time to be happy because all the artificially rigged prices are trying to right themselves back to reality. Versus the “managed” economy of the past. That is falling apart. My guess is higher or organic, or natural gas and diesel prices will help raise cheap airfares and cheap shipping. Might make people work closer to home. For decades I worked within a half mile.
I wonder if wood and coal burning stoves will come back. I had one in my garage work shop, I used to burn cannel coal or particle board pieces from a factory near by. Made a nice blue flame.
